Some (hopefully) useful links
- Limewire
The best of the currently available filesharing facilities since the demise of KazaaLite. Free, no spyware or adware. Start building your music collection!
- Audacity
Free program for editing and recording audio files. I use this for tidying up mp3 files. It's great for merging tracks together or adding or removing silence at the beginning or end of a song.
- James Randi
This is my favourite site on the whole internet. Randi can be a bit abrupt, but he always talks sense.
- The Guardian
The best online newspaper in the UK.
- Radio 3
The UK's first and best Classical Music radio station.
- Multimap
Handy site for maps and locating addresses given postcodes. Great aerial photographs too, but sadly not of Scotland!
- TerraServer USA
Like a USA version of Multimap.
- AA Route Planner
How to get from A to B in the UK.
- Walk Scotland
A site featuring some lovely walks in Scotland. The walks are listed by area and are rated easy, moderate or strenuous.
- Dundee city centre webcam
Dundee is the city in Scotland is where I grew up. If you have broadband, webcams are great, and this is the fastest and most powerful I've ever seen. It's almost like waching a video, and you can control the camera! Needs Java.
- News Quiz Cuttings
Hilarious cuttings from newspapers.
- Mozart music notation program
A very useful program for musicians. It allows you to compose, hear and print music. Free evaluation download. Excellent reviews, cheap to purchase, very good!
- Harmony Central
A good resource for musicians. I especially like the gear reviews submitted by readers.
- Analogue to digital
If you have a collection of old vinyl and cassettes which you would like to transfer to cd but lack the facility to record from your computer's line-in socket, this is the best free download. With this and your inbuilt Windows Media Player, you're laughing.
- Misheard Song Lyrics
Quite a laugh.
- The Straight Dope
Think of a question ... any question. Cecil Adams has an answer. This is a great educational site.
- Find a Grave
Information about the graves of famous people, many with photos.
- Jeff Gower, jazz/classical guitarist
Musically speaking, Jeff and I fair bit in common, except that he has talent! Hear sound clips from his excellent CD.
- Monkey Heaven
And the nature of Monkey was ... irrepressible! A superb website dedicated to Monkey (Magic), the Japanese TV series from the late 70s.
