SB-JR600 (2nd Series)

SB-JR600 1) Two invaluable contributors to this site have been Jason Arthur of Korea and Diego Alberto of Milan. Between them they have helped solve many mysteries!

Jason sent in these photos of an unknown model, then Diego told us it is an SB-JR600! In light of this knowledge, Jason then went on to add that the SB-JR600 had an alder body and was available in no less than four finishes : Pearl Black (PB), Pearl White (PW), Midnight Cherry (MDC) and Navy Blue (NBL)!

Jason tells us this particular bass has a solid white finish, black hardware and passive electronics.

SB-JR600 This model has a bolt-on neck.

Jason goes on to chat interstingly about SBs in the Far East :

“I just came back from Tokyo and I saw a few SBs from the Matsumoku era in my limited shopping time. One interesting specimen was a red SB-R80 (not padouk red, but a solid red finish, darker than candy apple). I wish I would have gotten a photo but I was so rushed. I'd never seen a red one like that. I also saw what I think was a fretless SB-700, padouk red. I also came across a black SB-1000 from 1984.”

“Other than those, the vast majority of SBs I saw were the new RIs: several oak John Taylors, a couple all black Cliff Burton re-issues with the oval inlays, and one standard SB-1000 re-issue in see through black. In just about three hours I managed to track down those three original SBs plus several new re-issues so, as you'd expect, the SB population is quite healthy in Japan! I'd be lucky to find one original SB in three years in my home town or even Seoul, where I have only seen one in five years!”

If you own an SB-JR600, please send your photos in!
