Over the weekend of 24th and 25th January 2009 Scunthorpe Steel Amateur Radio Club ran a special event station GB5CQD commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first rescue at sea using wireless telegraphy and to pay tribute the radio operator Jack Binns who was born in Brig North Lincolnshire England some 10 miles from where the special event station was set up.
