G0TQN shack (old QTH)             G0TQN at work

The object of this website is to give other people who enjoy radio as a hobby an insight into what it does for me and hopefully let them pick up on some of my knowledge and experience at the same time. This website will get bigger as time allows and items of radio interest are available for publication.

I've been involved in radio since 1979 when I discovered CB Radio whilst at High School. I then moved into a Radio/Communications based career which is where I'm at today.

In 1987 I studied and passed the RAE (UK Radio Amateurs Examination), however due to commitments with work and a young family didn't take out a class B license in 1992 when i became G7NXK. With the assistance of G0TVR I passed one of the last "old style" 12wpm Morse tests and G0TQN arrived in April 1993. I operate mobile during the working week mainly on 10m and enjoy just chatting to other amateurs with similar interests. During this most recent sunspot peak 10m AM became a real passion for me, possibly linked to 1979 and 27mhz AM !

I moved house in April 2007 and still don't have a shack up and running at my new QTH due to work and family commitments but it will happen one day, i'm just not sure when!

Below is a coverage prediction for my old QTH, the map is 60km x 60km and represents the signal received by a mobile with my transmitter running 10w into a dipole aerial mounted 10m above ground level.

Take a look at the rest of the website for more radio related topics.
