24th July 2009 - Richard Mason G6HKS asked me for a new design that could fit on a 4M length of 16SWG 3/4" square section tube. This presented me with several challenges. Firstly, YO7 will not run natively on LINUX or WINDOWS 7 that I am currently testing. I have tried all the latest offerings of antenna modelling software and frankly there is still nothing as powerful and accurate as YO7 for yagi design.
So I downloaded and installed DOSBOX, there are versions for all platforms. I was delighted to find that my copy of YO7 PRO is now running again. So I set to work and quickly recaptured my proficiency in using this awesome software.
The end result is plain to see, a yagi with an almost perfect 50-Ohms impedance at resonance, wide bandwith and good pattern. A front to rear power ratio of 24dB is very respectable. This antenna will fit into most situations and enable you to work DX!
