Tournament 13th June 2006

"Infinite War"

®

For this event a new judge stepped up to have his first go at judging approved play, Paul Crosby. This allowed Sean to partake in this event.

This scenario called for slightly different rules to 'standard play'. The rounds where to be played in four player pods (or as close as possible). Once a character was KO`d that character returned to play in its owners starting area. Each round was scheduled to last a full 50 minutes. There was also to be no final for this event the player with the highest points at the end of three rounds was to win.

The Event started slightly later than planned as Dale had told me that David was on his way down but had to stop at the bank first. Team in end we had seven players, which is quite a good turnout for a Tuesday night, this gave us one table of four and one table of three.

Simon Swinbank always being the optimist he is named his team 'destined to lose' comprising of V Cheetah, Superman Blue, E Sliver Sable, E Johnny Alpha and R + E Destiny.

Martin Teece's "Finaly I found the light and turned it off yippie" was a combination of  V Red Tornado, R Blackfire, E Bluedeveil and E Wonder Woman, nice 'colourful' chose there. Martin.

David Hansell's 'Speed + Power + Spots" mixed the E Quicksilver with alpha flight, E Executioner, E Marvel Girl, E Deathstroke with nanobots and E Cheetah with the society. I think David might have gotten his nights mixed up, Experienced Encounters isn't until the 22nd.

Alec Barrett teamed up, LE Positron, V Cheetah, V Quicksilver, E Jean Gray, and R Speedy to form 'The Misfits'.

Peter Davies went for his usual tactics with 'Hit and Hope' with started to look like a fantastic four team with E The Thing and E Human Torch but he decided not to make the pulses wavers attack like never before and include V Spiderman and E Captain America.

Sean this time taking a backseat to judging decided to play "Civil Unrest" teaming E Warmachine, V Hawkeye with Double-time E Captain America with Protected and Alpha Flight.

Leaving the shortest team list till last Dale DeAndrade's 'Thy are all done' consisted of E Raven and living up to his usual fashion his recently pulled, U Green Lantern.

"You spawny git!" ... Look what some lucky toad pulled in a booster this week!

Four players on a map doesn't leave a lot of places to hide

The First round saw Simon, Dale, David and Martin on the first table. Martin won the die roll and chose The Mansion, which he was regretting choosing by the end of the round to many walls not enough line of sight. Martin did manage to rack up an impressive 388 points though after killing Cheetah a total of four times along with a destiny, Johnny Alpha and Superman Blue. David killed Spiderman, Blackfire, Wonder Woman, Destiny and Blue Devil giving him 361 points. Dale managed to prevent both of his characters getting KO`d but only took down Red Tornado twice, Blue Devil and Blackfire giving him 258 points. last but not least poor Simon seamed to be living up to his team name after some very unlucky dice rolls and people getting the final shots in on 'his kills', only managing to take down Red Tornado, Wonder Woman and Blackfire giving him a round total of 124 points.

The second table saw Sean meet Martins points total exactly taking down, Spiderman, Quicksilver, Human Torch, Thing and Jean Grey. Alec scored a total of 231 points KO'ing Captain America Johnny Storm, Hawkeye and Warmachine and unfortunately Peters team was hoping but they weren't managing to hit as they only managed to take out Speedy and Cheetah giving him 73 points.

Whos' that ugly geeser in the Punisher teeshirt then?

After a quick sort the second round got underway the only change on the tables was Sean moving on to the four player table.

Martin again won the roll and this time his map was chosen. During this round we probably could have cut the map in half, it would have helped Dale as he wouldn't have to travel over half the map to get the the action. Sean on the other hand could not get away from the fighting as he was promptly locked in to the build by a 2 pronged assault from Martin and David.

Dale also was not very pleased as after travailing over half the board Martin's Wonder Woman charged the LE Green Lantern and Criticaled, pushing him in to the ready arms of Deathstroke who was quite capable of applying the finishing blow to the Big Green Man.

Table two also seen quite a lot of action or should i say bouncing as Peters rolls super senses and impervious rolls always seamed to pass unfortunately his attack rolls weren't as good as hoped as he only managed to knockout cheetah twice.

At the end of round two it was looking really good for David with a 225 point Green Lantern under his belt.

I face Dave's recurring Cheetah nightmare in the 'Corridor of Claws'

Take that you big bully! Wonder Woman does the damage, but Deathstroke gets the points as he does a clean up job on the remnants of the KC Green Lantern

Round 3 required a quick shuffle so we did not end up with the exact same tables as round 2 and we ended with Simon, Sean, Dave and Martin on the 4 player table and Alec, Peter and Dale on the 3 player table. Unfortunately due to time restraints and starting late this round had to be cut short by 10 minutes but it did not stop it being quite eventful.

Simon won the roll for map on the top table and not wanting to change picked the same map as Martin. Martin and Dave did not want to move and after last game Sean decided that he wanted out of the building (your not claustrophobic by any chance Sean? No, but I am less than suicidal too ... Sean) so swapped with Simon. Superman's Pulsewave came in quite handy for Simon as he was swamped as he step out side to see what was going on and he managed to get a few KO's out of it.

The Smaller table saw the most KO's it had all night in this final round with Alec and peter getting 3 each and Dale's Green Lantern must have woken up for this round as he got a total of 7 KO's in the final round equalling Peters for the whole tournament.

As last action was called it was on Sean to decide if he should use protected of give David the points for Captain America. Being the sportsman that he is he gave David the points (chosing not to use Protected). Little did anyone know until all the points were totalled up that Sean's decision allowed David the victory just stealing it from Dale. (Sorry Dale ... Sean)

Fellowship was awarded to Peter Davies for staying strong and continuing to play in a good manner even when he was not doing very well.

So after 3 rounds of permanent Lazarus Pit we had the final standings.
