Marvel 500pts Unrestricted - “X-Menpalooza” aka “Revenge of the Duck”

Second Gamestuff Sunday event of the year and a time of change, my first day as a judge which allows Sean to make a rare appearance in a tournament and also his chance to unleash revenge upon certain players.

First of all, thanks to all that played and I hope I did a satisfactory job of judging, also well done to everyone for a full day of good clean games with not a single piece of cheese in sight (except for the stuff Craig stores on his hat). It also proves that I am the only Looney that when given the option of a 500pt game will blow more than half the points on 1 figure, as all teams contained mostly low point characters and where very well balanced.

Welcomes .... Judge Steve date

The players and teams on show where as follows:

Sean Harte (Sinister 10 with Hostages)

Stephen Hunt (Nick Fury’s Young Howling Commandos)

David Smith (Summer Valentine)

Craig “I love last place” Woolnough (X-It)

James Phoenix (Spidey & Friends)

Liam Cooke (X-tra X-men)* Team Name 'Awarded' by Judge!

Parry Cooke (X-tra X-tra X-men)* Team Name 'Awarded' by Judge!

So with a mix of shield, spidey friends & foes and more mutants than the marvel universe currently has… the games begin.

The first round sees Sean drawn against his first target of revenge for the day…Craig. After Craig’s very poor show of using a Vet superman in two friendly house games in a row Sean takes very little time in taking his revenge upon Craig’s soon to be ex-X-men. Sean gets the win with very few casualties while crag picks up the first loss of the day (never mind Craig I’m sure it will get better).

The next table sees Mutant Vs Mutant as Dave’s Summers family themed team (all the family plus partners, including Franklin Richards) takes on Liam’s X-men. Juggernaught leads the charge across the map for Liam, the battle begins and Liam gets the valentines gift of a Phoenix Nova blast ’ouch’ painful, the result Dave scores the win.

On the final table we have James Vs Steve. Steve the veteran players builds a well constructed SHIELD horde ….with one minor problem, 18 figures in a 5 actions per turn game, with no fliers.. :S, the battle is a good one but after time is called Steve still has 9 unmoved figures in his start zone, perhaps next time you should also bring the SHEILD helicarrier with you. The result is a very close win for Steve.

As the number of players is uneven Parry gets the bye for this round.

Taste hot death at the hands of the Sinister Ten. Where's ya Superman now huh?

The X-Men™ have planned a field trip to the museum and so have the other X-Men™. It will definately all end in tears.

Players are paired up for round 2 with Sean and Dave on the top table, a close game follows as Sean immediately focuses his attack on phoenix, no nova blast for you this game, but Dave follows up by tk’ing phoenix back to the medic and then again tk’ing here straight at the sinister 10. A close battle follows with Dave getting the victory, but the question must also be asked how Sean has managed to keep J Johan Jameson alive for both games: S

On the second table its Parry Vs Steve hunt, in what is now known as “THE Forces of Nature” game. BFCs are played, Parry plays earthquake, Steve plays Cross winds, leaving every figure on the map now dreading the earthquake, about half way into the game the distant rumbling draws closer and the quake hits, and about 5mins later after 3 people helped click Steve’s team all the shield have taken there damage… does that dial really now read 4 ATTACK…!!! The total combined damage of the earth quake… an impressive 72 clixs, this must be some sort of record. Now with Steve unable to hit the back door of a barn with a bazooka Parry picks up his first win off the day.

The final table is Mutants Vs Spidey as Craig takes on James, it’s a close battle and the words “damn you Spiderman” are heard very often from Craig, James picks up his first win of the day.

Liam gets the Bye for this round.

What kind of idiot uses all these figures and no flying characters? Oh, that would be me then. fair play though a great theme and no named duplicates. Very impressive!

The Final round starts with Dave Vs Parry on the top table, in what proves to be a very interesting and close game, as Parry plays yet another good BFC in the form of poor teamwork which takes the Tk'ing Phoenix plan off the board. Both teams do the just right thing and charge headlong into the centre of the map for a battle royal, with a surprising MVP as Parry’s Infinity challenge Professor X does not let a wheelchair stop him from kicking a$$, sadly his glory is cut short by a running shot from Cyclops getting a critical for 5 damage removing prof from the board with one hit. Dave picks up his third win of the day in what was the battle of the day for me. Kudos to both players.

The second table sees James Vs Liam, as James once again faces the mutants, in what had to be the strangest game of the day when not a single character gets KO’d despite both teams getting stuck in. Liam manages to KO 49pts in the final moments of the game giving him the win.

The final table sees Judge Duck about to deliver his second portion of revenge for the day against the second big fan of shrubbery camouflage… Steve Hunt. Shield head straight for the rooftops with the snipers but fail to hit their targets, matters are not helped when good ol’ nick fury critical misses at a vital moment. Sean scores enough kills to get the win. So tell me what does revenge taste like….. Sweet I would imagine. Sean also manages to keep J Jonah alive again, by this time forgetting to place his pogs in his start zone..! (ED ... Dont forget to say that Meester Hunt played the Bright Lights feat so Mysterio couldn't make use of his Stealth. Alas neither could Psylocke, Mystique or Fury - that was a fair trade off!).

Craig gets the bye which gives him his first win of the day, never mind Craig I’m sure you can use your other skills to skank an LE.

Large fiery bird, slap bang in the middle of the board. That has a tendency to spell O.U.C.H.!

I'll use orange rings so I can tell my team for yours. Good idea, so will I!

After all three rounds, the finalists are worked out as Dave Smith and Sean Harte, but due to Sean’s belly being full of sweet revenge he opts not to play, allowing Parry to make his second final of the week. A bold gesture Mr Harte that proves why you are a two time national fellowship winner.

Steve now picks his time to flee for the building in tears at not making his usual spot in the final …. Just joking! (ED Are you? I thought I saw a tear as he rushed away). Unfortunately he has to work Sundays and his boss does not see playing heroclix as a viable option for being late to work.

Congratulations to Dave for his first tournament victory lets hope more follow soon and put an end to the reign of terror of Steve’s and myself (ED ... Amen to that).

Parry picks up the well deserved Fellowship Prize, and also congrats for making your second final in the week, I’m sure a victory will be on the cards soon (ED ... So you are saying he should stick to CCGs are you?).

Thanks again to everyone that played for a good clean sporting cheese free day of heroclix, and I hope to see you all at the events again soon.

Parry - look behind you - see what the Flaming Bird has done, she has driven everyone away and now we only have empty tables. Ok I lied, but watch out for that Nova Bl ... too late.
