"LADIES NIGHT"

So what zany and crazy idea had I come up with for tonight's tournament then? Well I had deemed it 'Ladies Night' so only female Heroclix figures were allowed to take part. It's not that ellaborate, but it does keep the players thinking and tweaking their teams. This was a Boroclix League Event too (the fifth one, how time flies) so the lure of extra league points awaited, but for this reason I decided it wasn't fair to seed players or run separate events so it was run as a standard event with three Swiss Rounds and a final. A good turnout as ever for the league event saw 16 entrants join the scrap to move up the table.

Martin had a bit of reverse league fortune today as he lost horribly in the first round at the hands of Craig collecting only 27 points, but recovered in his next two matches beating Peter Davies and then Alex to end with a very respectible 2 - 1 and over 1000 points. Martins's "My First Time Good ... By Blackfire" saw a Pummeling, Unstoppable Blackfire team up with a Heightened Reflexes Jean Grey and Blackfire with Vendetta. Blackfire managed to score double points for KOing an Arch Enemy in both rounds two and three and proved a sound tactic.

Simon Fox's "Hide, Heal, Hypersonic" saw two of Rookie Speedy join Spoiler, Blackfire, Photon and a Paramedic. With the help of an Ordinary Day he won his first game against David Hansell fairly comfortably. He came up against the resident guru of clix, Ste Hunt for his second match and was outgunned in a pretty close game and then finished off his swiss rounds with a whitewash victory over Jonathan McNamara. A sound display overall to end 2 - 1 and get a top four finish. Simon's certainly picking the game up quickly and his first event win could be just around the corner.

Craig Woolnough's "Springy" team had the LE Jessica Drew with Black Cat, Mockingbird, Manhunter and Wolfsbane for a cross-universe monstrocity ... really Craig, I expect better from you. Having seen off the challenge of Martin in his first game he hammered Patto with a whitewash in his second game only to hit the brick wall (almost literally) of a team in the shape of Paul Crosby for his final game and despite his Armor Wars he couldnt get a KO for love nor money and lost.

David Hansell's first round loss to his pal Simon must have spurred his "I Like Prisons (There Good)" team to better things as he recovered well from that shaky start. His Abbey Chase with Nanobots, Blackfire, Scarlet Witch and Katana combo may have only collected 43 points in game one but in beating Paul Brown and Patto with whitewashes in games two and three he still managed a great score and a decent placing showing his strengths at the game. Will he dare travel to an event at another venue in the near future to fit his wits against foreigners?

The Huntmeister looked to be homing in on yet another event win as his "I Love A Girl In Uniform" team got off to a great start. His S.H.I.E.L.D. team, consisting of Mystique with Lucky Break, Tia Senyaka, Mockingbird, two Snipers and two Agents saw off Paul Brown first dropping pnly 46 points (Paul's only points of the event as it happened), then took out Simon's team in a tight match gaining another 268 points. The Huntmeister's momenteum ran out as he hit the last hurdle though with Dale managing to hammer him into submission allowing only 22 points to come Lex Juniors way. A nice themed team again though ... I expect nothing less from Mr. Hunt, EVER!

Christopher Larkman, being the youngest player at the venue has been finding his feet lately and winning a few more games. Today he had combined Superwoman, Black Cat and Speedy to make "Winning Witches" ... but would they win? Alas not in the first game as fellow youngster Jonathan McNamara took the plaudits and the majority of the points. Chris managed to turn this around in his other games though as he beat Ste Date and Matthew Cannings to finish with a highly respectable 2 - 1 card and 577 points.

Alec Barrett started tonights game with a lot of promise as he went to town on Matthew Cannings with his "E.E.E.P.!!!" team of Emerald Eye of Ekron (who I ruled to be female), Pulsar and Carol Ferris. Having given Matthew a sound thrashing he tailed of badly later, first losing to Paul Crosby when collecting only 116 points and then even worse losing without collecting a point to Martin Teece. You can't win them all I suppose.

Ste Date went easy tonight with his "X-Rated Ladies" team. Phoenix with Trick Shot, Shadow Cat and Storm were all KOed in their first game against Dale and then again agaisnt Chris Larkman. Ste will never know if his naughty ladies would have got a third spanking as he recieved a third round bye thanks to Simon Swinbank dropping out of the event at this stage. The winning bye meant Ste was guaranteed a last match win and this jumped his placings up a little, not that he really cared that much anyway.

Peter Davies had another threesome for play, threesomes seemed very popular tonight for some reason. "The 3 Amigos" was an odd name for Starfire, Raven and Huntress but each to their own eh. Peter managed to score excactly the same points in rounds one and two (37) as he first lost to Patto and then Martin but he did a lot better in his last match as he destroyed Paul Brown to claim 387 points, Paul was having a very, very bad night.

Matthew Cannings was using only Captain marvel and Spoiler for his "Marton Heroes" team and unforunately the lack of usable actions was quite telling. Alex beat Matthew first game and Matthew only managed to get three points for KOing a pog, which to be fair is three more than some people managed in various rounds. The second round went a lot better, as he picked up a win against Simon and managed to take 231 points. The third game was another defeat, but a lot better than the first as Chris Larkman won but Matthew collected 154 points. Good work Matthew, keep it up.

Jonathan McNamara put together four of DC's finest to complete the "Ravengers" line up. Lead from the front by Ravager on a Swingline and supported by Blackfire, Speedy and Katana this crew certainly had potential. After a great start in beating Chris, alas it all went a bit pear shaped as first Dale beat him comfortably and then Simon whitewashed him for a tough break. Still not a bad nights work for one of the newer and younger players at this venue and a great looking team too.

Patto continued his theme of managing to completely bamboozle me with his team names as this weeks offering was "Defenders of Clemence". Two Valkyries (a veteran and an experienced ... ouch!) were both In Contact With Oracle thanks to the low taffif multi-network connection available vai Patto's Cheese-a-fone and they were joined by a rookie Jean Grey and Dallas Riordan bystander pog. A sound start saw Patto take a win against Peter and get a good points haul too. It went downhill from this bright start for Patto though as Craig and David both gave him a sound and white-coated thrashing ensuring his score did not improve ... or to put it another way, he pulled a Teece!

Paul Brown had what was his worst night of clix tonight after a really good display in the last league event had left him second in the standings. His "Team of Many Races" wasn't too hot tonight though and Jessica Drew, Nebula and Storm with an assortment of feats went home lucky to be still in one piece. After taking a good pounding from Ste Hunt in round one and collecting only 46 points, Paul probably thought it couldn't get much worse. He was wrong, it could - and it did, much, much worse. David Hansell and then Peter Davies inflicted consecutive whitewashes on Paul and his total didn't improve. I wasn't going to mention the final score again, but the sadistic side of me can't resist ... he ended on 46 points. Ironically the last BFC he played was Overconfidence, I think that about sums it up nicely.

Simon Swinbank dropped out at the third round stage so his scores were discounted.

Dave's left scratching his head wondering how he can take down Simon's team. Don't you just love playing against friends.

braek

Ste Date has a side game of touch your nose as Dale loiters in the corridor of death. The sugar free Coke Zero wont help!

break

Mr. Crosby seemsto have a smug grin on his face here.. What does he know that Simon doesn't know I wonder?

break

Simon learns from the master (well the reigning unofficial UK Champion at least) in his second round match. He lost this one but will be back for more!

break

I couldn't resist posting this one. Ste loves to help develop our younger players, don't you Ste? It's nice to see you assiting the young 'uns learn the game!

The two players managing to go unbeaten in all three rounds and thus reach a face to face final were Dale and Paul Crosby.

Dale was using Blackfire, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Sniper, Katana, Spoiler and Black Cat in his "Spoiled Rotten" team and they kicked some butt. Dale started the night by beating Ste Date, then took out Jonathan McNamara before finally seeing off Ste Hunt for a clean sweep of wins and a well earned place in the final. Beating the two Ste's in a single event isn't something many of the players at theis venue have acheieved too often.

Meanwhile Paul was making a lot of new friends (feel the sarcasm) with his fun loving double barrier Invisible Woman team. "The Girls Are Protecting Themselves" saw an abominable dual weilded rookie Invisible Woman combo with Destiny, Pulsar and a Paramedic. Whilst it couldn't be argued that this was an effective combination, the opponent's hanging themselves and slitting their wrists with their teeth around him was testament to the level of enjoyment tasted by its opposition. Only Alec managed to KO any of Paul's figures in the second round game but the Hypersonic Pulsar was enought to ensure victory in each othe the three swiss rounds.

The final saw Dale marching a well trodden path of trying to break through a barrier and do damage in a single turn and the outcome looked pretty inevitable from the off as Dale resigned himself to the runners-up spot. He was correct, as without breaking sweat or indeed taking a KO, Paul barriered his way to his first tournament victory.

Peter Davies picked up the Fellowship Award by recieving the most votes and well deserved it was as Peter sets an example to us all on how the game should be played, well done Peter. Right I'm off to update the League Table and plan the next lot of events ... an Envoy's work is never done! Thanks to everyone for taking part and making it a good night.

Paul looking rather happier than Dale, whilst Simon watches for tips. Please Simon, don't learn anything from Paul's team tonight ... its an abomination!
