"WACKY HEROES"
23rd November 2006
| Another fourteen player
event in Middlesbrough took the weeks total number
of different players competing in Heroclix events to 20!
Pretty impressive stats if I do say so myself. In another attempt to beat the cheese out of certain individuals (Dave and Dale cough cough) tonights Wacky Heroes event was another with a sting in its tail. For the first five turns of each players game their heroes powers were absorbed by an alien power baffler there were however a few additional powers lying around on the board that could be picked up and used immediately. Some of these were one use, others were permanent but all could be retained after a characters normal powers had been restored. This lead to some very interesting and funny heroes throughout the twenty one swiss style match up games. Mostly die to lack of time and will I am just going to summarise some of the highlights and lowlights of tonights event. There are no piccies either as time is proving hard to come by to record all the events I am running so Im afraid from now on its likely to be just highlights of some events and not them all either that or I wont actually have enough time to keep developing fun events and I know which is more important to you all. A SPECIAL PRIZE was awarded tonight which may well become a staple in the Bororclix events. The first player to receive the award for best theme team (entirely decided at the Judges discretion) was Simon Fox for his all Hydra toting Hail Hydra team. Incidentally the reward not only carries an LE figure but also 200 league points to be applied after the events conclusion. In the actual games some odd things were seen thanks to the random madness of the first round and the extra power tokens. A zero ranged Cheetah with Ranged Combat Expert! If only you had several Perplexers Martin. Antman with permanent Invulnerability on top of his Super Senses ouch. David Hansells Ghost Rider bore an uncanny resemblance to Abbey Chase thanks to his mod work. Ste Hunt saw Arsenal working with Chp and GNort of the GLC (no not the Greater London Council, the Green Lantern Corps) which was a bit of an oddity in itself. A third round game between Paul Crosby and James Pattison seemed to leave more walls destroyed than were left standing as the Prison Map saw some major structural damage in that one. After three rounds it was pretty close for the top placings. Dale stormed through to the final by right of winning all his matches including two very tough games against Mystic/Arachnos teams. Joining him there, but only just was Jonathan McNamaras offering (the closest to cheese this event) of The Man of Steel. Wanting something a little different for the final (ok then a LOT different) the 5 turn power return rule was gone instead the characters were allocated ONE random power each. Again this is part of my mater plan to discourage players from cheesing up with one big hard to hit figure and feats and encouraging more balanced teams. Jonathans face was a picture but he got lucky and pulled a single use Running Shot for his power. Dale got a better spread as he had a few figures including a Support and a Close Combat Expert. After Superman used up his Running Shot on Boomerang (rendering him pretty useless with around 4 attack for the rest of the game) he gained the Perplex power permanently. It was a more interesting final than it might have been under standard conditions and actually proved to be quite tight with Antmans high defence proving as much of a problem for the Man of Steel as his defence was for Dales crew. Ultimately a high dice roll saw Superman lose his grip on consciousness and with no back up the event prize was handed to Dale and not a hint of fromage in sight. Well done Dale! |
