Gencon 2005 - Envoy Appreciation Night

®

The Friday Night at Gencon had a special event laid on for Wizkids© Envoys. An Envoy Appreciation Night.

Anup (Eurpean Approved Play Coordinator) and Stuart (UK Approved Play Coordinator) as well as Jules (UK Level 5 Envoy) took the opportunity to thank everyone for their efforts in organising approved play games and we all got to know each other a little bit better. Jules was awarded an outlandish pink tee shirt with an excellent Nimrod™ transfer on the back. No excuse not to see him now!

Anup gave us some information (not a lot, but some) on upcoming Wizkids© things and made us all feel very appreciated for the efforts we put in. He even bought a round of drinks which I would imagine was the most expensive round at Gencon 2005 bearing in mind there were about 18 of us in total.

When the formailities were done we split off to have an Envoy only game session. Mech Warrior© and Heroclix© were available and of course I went with the latter.

For Heroclix© each Envoy was given a Plastic Man™ Mail Box figure and three sealed boosters of Armor Wars©. We had to build a 300 point team and add Plastic Man™. We then divided into four player pods to play off. Standard rules applied except that if you lost your Plastic Man™ you were out!

Ironically as this game went late into the night I did quite well on this one. I sneaked through the first game having seen Plastic Manevaade four attack rolls. I then got through round two and into the semi-finals. Amazingly the Plastic Manavoided 2 Pulse Waves and a succession of attack rolls to make the final unscathed ( which was more than I can say for any of my figures in the Iron Man game later in the week). Having said that it was 1.00 am and at least two of the semi-finalists were actively trying to make the game quicker as well as not being interested in the win.

It was a very odd event. I had only ever seen one Plastic Man in total before and now there were four per game - he was everywhere. The funniest thing I saw was a line of three Plastic Man figures slapping each other like something from a Three Stooges sketch. A close second was a Plastic Man hugging a standard mail box which I thought "thats something you dont see everyday", however I turned around and on the map behind me saw exactly the same thing!

Something you don't see every day!

Three Plastic Man™ Mail Boxes all in a row reenacting a sketch from the Three Stooges as they slap each other for zero damage thanks to their toughness.

In the end none of us had the will to play out a final at 1.30 am, so Marlow suggested a roll-off to which we all agreed. I got a nine which tied for second/third place with Matt Hardy taking the Envoy Championship with an outstanding ten! Fantastic performace Matt, well done.

Having to roll off again to break the tie, Lady Luck it appeared was not with me as usual as my opponent got double six. I rolled anyway to allow the dice to mock me one last time tonight and mock me they did - I got 11! However it wasn't all bad as I was given a lovely Positron figure for my troubles - now if I can just get the rest of the CoH and CoV figures I will be laughing.

It was a great night. Thanks Anup and Stu sorry about splilling the beer on one of the maps though D'OH!)
