Gencon 2005 - Iron Man Awards
®
The fourth Heroclix event at Gencon 2005 was the Iron Man Awards game where duplicate Big Hitters were allowed through a process of card allocation (rules). |
The chosen team, naked as I couldnt be bothered to use rings, were: Cain Marko (FF LE) 155, Unstoppablefeat 5, Fortitudefeat 25, Nightcrawler™ (FF E) 47, Hawkeye™ (FF R) 61 TOTAL 293 points (only 107 short!) |
| As no duplicates of
potential Iron Men were to be allowed in this game each
player was given a card with a number on it to allocate
positions for picking their main Clix figure. There was a
very dubious first deal in which only one card was left
between two players. Then there was a recount of
registered players and cards and all was as it should be.
I cant get my head around what could possibly of happened
other than one player having two cards? Very strange. The
second deal was done and Mr Date managed a very spawny
No. 1 card and chose to go with Ares™, the God of
War. At the other end of the spectrum I realised that it
wasnt just dice that mocked me as I got the dreaded Card
No. 18! Having seen 17 Iron Men selected I had no more choices from the selection of figures I had brought with me. I was intending to use the mighty veteran Taskmater™ but upon seeing the booster pulls had a word with Judge Matt Hardy as I would have struggled to get 250 points, let alone 400 and whilst I would have had fun with the Taskmaster™ this would have been a bit unfair on anyone who played gainst me's points total. So thanks to Colin, cheers again mate, I managed to borrow a Cain Marko with unstoppable to construct a team around. I got a Fantastic Forces© booster to complete my team. I pulled a broken E Nightcrawler™ (again curse my horrendous luck), R Hawkeye™ and R Vulture™. Using Nightcrawler™ and Hawkeye™ to complete my team I went into a four player pod containing some strong teams. As I moved in to attack I was mugged from all sides and my team was decimated. Zero points put me in the bottom pod for the second game with only two Iron Men (U Ares™ and a V Cheetah™) as two of the other teams had also been wiped out. As far as I was concerned Cheetah™ had a great big target on her head - and I don't mean she was masquerading as Bullseye™! |
You spawny get! |
Throwing caution to the wind I charged everything I had in at the Iron Cheetah™ and for once having done all the damage their was noone in range to come and take my kill so I pushed to do her in. LE in the bag, but that was about the end of my tournament other than a fight to avoid coming in the bottom three. Having gained Kudos for getting first pick and not taking Superman™, Ste D managed to go on to do well and be in the final reckonings for Iron Man points. He just missed out on winning but can hold his head up high after another good performance. Hmmm perhaps green rings may help me next time? |
Another Iron Man battle. |
