The criminal mastermind that is Kobra™ launched a full scale assault on the Gencon UK 2005 Wizkids European Club/Venue Challenge to gain fame and honour from his fellow Heroclixers.

Sean Harte (Crimson Duck) partnered Steve Date to give us the chance to use a nice fun themed team and also afford the opportunity for Mr. Hunt to go all out for winning (or so he thought ...).

A cunningly crafted 'mix' of veteran Kobra™, one experienced fanatic, twelve veteran fanatics and the hired hands of Deathstroke™ and Ravager™ (I went with this as they were orange) with robot sentry L-RON (not my idea but it was there) made up the just under 500 point two player team that would cause fear (ok laughter) in the hearts of all men in Bognor Regis on that fateful cold Sunday in November. For added affect swords of finest orange and green plastic were purchased, green and orange plastic dice bought and only gammy orange or green Powerade drinks were allowed to pass our lips during the games. That's how seriously we take our clix games down here in the North East of England! Actually we had some nourishing orange and green sweets that Drew occasionally threw us to keep our sugar levels up too.

The greatest Heroclix® line-up ever seen ready to cause death by laughter on all opposition! Soon the Kobra™ Shuffle would be born!

The Green Kobra™ squad try out the revolutionary new "Christmas Tree" Formation prior to exectuting the first Kobra™ Shuffle manouver against an unwitting Avengers™ team. Who's laughing now! Mmwwaahhhaaaaaa. Meanwhile Orange squad extract information from Flash Thompson the only way they know how, chop chop!

In what was described a a scenario story driven event, Kobra™ and his hoard of loyal fanatical henchmen decided to play in character. Kobra™ lusted after the precious crystal shards and used every ounce of his criminal mastermind brain to get hold of them. The fanatics, who of course all have Battle Fury, charged the nearest opponent unless they had alternate orders to capture a shard.

For anyone who went to Gencon UK and didn't take part in this event - you missed a real treat. I can honestly say I enjoyed this game more than any other game of Heroclix® I have ever played. Fortunately my partner was also getting into character and we bounced off each other well. The orange and green plastic swords, orange and green dice and orange and green Powerade drinks (the orange one is hideous by the way) all helped us stay in character and the mighty "Hail Kobra"s helped us stay awake after an almost all night Heroclix® session in the Mandarin™'s Tomb.

After taking something of a mauling from the Avengers™ in the first round, Kobra™ and his loyal followers were somewhat short of points haviung not got any KO's and seen many of their numbers fall. On the plus side Kobra™ did a have a nice shiny crystal to play with and with which to taunt the opposite. He only just managed to hang onto it at the end mind you! However the "Kobra™ Shuffle" was born as demonstarted by the fanatics frantically using free actions to pass the crystal to one another then moving closer to their lord and master. You have to love those fanatics, they really are fanatical in their support of Kobra™.

The boys didn't fair much better points-wise in game two. Having slaughtered a pondering and strangely neutral James Howlett LE who teleported into the centre of the board they thought they had their first KO points. Alas they were not awarded any for that particular blow as he was neutral. Now fancying himself as a future contestent for the Crystal Maze though, Kobra™ had decided to ignore the points tallies (well mostly seeing as they weren't going to make much inroads) and try to collect as many pretty crystals as he could get his mits on. For match 2 each team were equiped with a Sentinel™ to do their bidding. What a grotesque colour scheme - no green or orange to be seen anywhere on them. Sending the free Sentinel™ on a suicide mission to divert the opposition away from potential crystal location, Kobra™ got his way again. He may not have many points, but he was amassing a lovely collection of precious jewels.

Game three saw Kobra™ actually carve up some turkies as they came up against an ill-prepared team of X-Men™. Xavior and Co. didn't have much luck as their master tactic of Mind Control was somewhat redundant due the battle fury of the fanatic hoarde! Not only did Kobra™ claim a third crystal this game, they also claimed some scalps and an actual victory on points. Mock not the Kobra™ Cheese Hunters, lest ye be judged!

Later in the semi-final (yes Kobra qualified for the semi-finals) Kobra™ viciously and relentlessly attack a blancmange that later turns out to be Nimrod™ with a plethora of additional feats - all of them in fact. We would have killed it too if we hadn't been disturbed by a pesky dumpster wielding Superman™.

Heroclix® cheese-lovers be warned. Kobra™ and his fanatical followers are ever vigilant in their battle against the The Cheese Menace!

[More to follow]

X-Men™ Come Out and Play! The X-Men™ have a real bad day as their opponents are so just so damn fanatical that they can't be driven from their true purpose (or Mind Control didn't work)
