Wizkids Nationals 2006

University of Loughborough, Loughborough (12th-13th August 2006)

Having taken the role of Heroclix Head Judge for the Saturday's unofficial UK National Heroclix Championship I had my excuses for not winning all ready made. With this in mind I threw down the gauntlet to my travelling companions to go and win the event for the players of Middlesbrough, after all there were only about 60 other players so it wouldn't be too difficult would it? For various reasons (exams, holidays etc.) only three players from our Middlesbrough venue travelled for the two day extravaganza of Heroclix at the 'Nationals', the usual suspects being myself, Ste Date and Ste Hunt better known as the The League of Extraodinary Hockey Shirts*. We were not the only players from the North though as we were joined by one or two from Leeds and at least one from Manchester.

All though judging on the day gave me the great chance to float between rooms, meet lots of players and generally mix with a huge number of the UK Heroclix community, one of the downsides to being 'floaty' was that I cant do much of a write of of how the matches went. In fairness, I have left this event so long to write up I can barely remember any of the games anyway ... even the ones I played on the Sunday Clone Wars event with my trio of Dr. Psychos! Here instead is a photographic representation of the weekends events. Hope you all had as good a time at Loughborough as I did.

As you can see, we were not short of players at the Nationals as over 60 Heroclixers turned up to compete and have a fun day.   Some players were more interested in posing for photos than the were concentrating on their matches! ; )   Some of the Heroclixers did pay a bit more attention to their games though and ignored the camera.   The pondering 'Thinker' look seemed to be the pose of the day (I counted at least 3 in this picture alone).

Didn't believe me? Look here ... at least another three players in the pondering thinker pose again!   Ricardo shows off his Clone Wars team with three Emerald Eye of Ekron. The Mexican theme "Ay Ay Ay"   Daz gives this game his 'official' and patented Judge stare. They won't dare do anything untoward now!   Lots of chatter too. This Heroclix event isn't just about great games, its about having a great time. The UK clix community rocks!

A thumbs up seems to indicate John fancies his chances of a win against Steve Beer. If the match had gone a little while longer he may not have!   An England Vs Ireland top 8 battle as Ireland's Brian Mullaky takes on and defeats England's Steve Lidgett.

Ste Hunt battle's his way through a tough semi final against John Galon. Is he on his way to be crowned champion?

UK Level 5 Envoy Julian Breen (Big Jules), left, awards the new unofficial UK Champion Steven Hunt with his 'trophey' and main prize.

Apologies for an inaccuracies (the writing was very small and hard to read on a lot of A5 sheets)
