FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

If you're thinking of emailing me please take a minute to browse over this page... it may have the answers you need.

There are currently 15 frequently asked questions addressed on this page (last updated November 2007).

  • Q: Do you make custom compilations of your DVD videos?

    • A: I don't because it takes a couple of hours to author and burn each one and I really don't have the time. However if you look at the DVD Compilations page you can see the compilations that I do have to trade. The same goes for CDs; I don't make compilation CDs or merge two shows onto a disc.

  • Q: Could you look through my list and tell me whether I'm missing any good quality recordings?

    • A: I'm always happy to make recommendations and suggestions for the best quality recordings out there but it's your job to cross-reference your own CD and DVD lists with the information on my website; it's what it's made for.

  • Q: Where do you get your live recordings from?

    • A: I tape plenty of shows myself and I'm handy at setting the DVD Recorder to tape TV programmes. I respect other people's privacy and I don't pass on their details. However if you're looking for bootleg traders (other than me!) I recommend you make a few posts on various forums - it's how I started out ??? years ago.

  • Q: Could you convert my cassette tapes/VHS tapes to DVD?

    • A: Yes! If you have something that's in better quality than what is floating around I can make the transfer for you for free. However if the same recording already exists on CD/DVD in better quality I recommend fishing around for a copy rather than injecting poorer-quality versions into circulation.

  • Q: How do I know whether a certain bootleg is a single CD or double CD recording?

    • A: The 'Source(s)' box on each bootleg page has a picture of either a single CD or a two CDs to indicate how many discs the show takes up. As a general rule any show 80 minutes or longer will be spread over two discs.

  • Q: What do I need to know when trading with you?

    • A: Take a look at my Trading page, it has all the information you need. Please read it to understand what kind of trader I am (yes there are different kinds!).

  • Q: Can I get a user account and password for your FTP?

    • A: I don't run an FTP... at least not in the common sense. I use an FTP Server for trading bootlegs online when a postal trade cannot be done. I don't actually have a server hosting bootlegs all year round. In fact this year I haven't had need to use the FTP at all.

  • Q: Why don't you have 1988 listed on your dates of Style Council bootlegs?

    • A: As far as I know there are no recordings of the handful of shows The Style Council played in '88. The only media from that year that I know of is a TV interview. Also missing out 1988 on the sidebar is aesthetically pleasing :)

  • Q: How often is the website updated?

    • A: That depends. If I'm at home then maybe two or three times a month. If I'm away then once a month. And if there's a tour happening or plenty of TV and radio promotion for a new release then maybe a little more often.

  • Q: Could you give specific details regarding the sound quality of a specific bootleg?

    • A: Truth be told there's usually little more I can say than is detailed on my Quality Rating page. There is a sound quality rating for every bootleg on the relevant pages on the website. When trading I always mention whether there's anything of specific interest regarding the quality of an individual recording. Otherwise please use the quality ratings on the bootleg pages and the Quality Rating page.

  • Q: I emailed you yesterday and you haven't replied.

    • A: I respond to all emails I receive. That said, sometimes, when I have a lot of emails coming in, I'll answer all my emails every three or four days in one go. If I don't respond within an hour (as some people seem to expect me to) or within a day please don't flood my inbox with countless re-sends! If you don't get a reply within a week then please feel free to jog my memory.

  • Q: Why do you use DVD+R discs and will my DVD player play them?

    • A: This is a personal preference really. You can visit http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ to check whether you're player is compatible or not. Regardless, computer drives will read them just fine. These days it doesn't really matter whether you use +R or -R discs anyway.

  • Q: I haven't read your Trading page, can we still trade?

    • A: Sure, but if there's any problem with a trade that is specifically addressed on the Trading page then there's nothing I can do about it.

  • Q: I'm looking for a recording but you don't seem to have it.

    • A: I might have a copy of it somewhere which I haven't gotten round to putting on the website just yet. If I don't, I almost certainly know where to get it. Of course some recordings don't exist - not every gig gets taped. In truth the only way to be sure a show will be taped is by taping it yourself. I know some people who have learnt this the hard way!

  • Q: Who are you?

    • A: A Paul Weller fan, same as yourself. If you send me an e-mail for the first time please feel free to call me whatever you feel is appropriate.
