GAYTON COMPANION DOG SHOW 2005
The first Gayton Companion Dog Show was held in conjunction with St Mary's
Church Fete on Saturday 13th August 2005. Despite the appalling weather, it was
a great success and ensured that Gayton Companion Dog Show became an annual
event.
124 dogs with their owners in tow turned up on the day, which considering the
conditions was a remarkable number! The thirteen classes were judged in two
rings, with Mr Peter James judging in Ring 1 (the veteran dogs, junior handlers
and pedigree classes) and Mr Roy Kendall judging in Ring 2 (the novelty
classes).
The James family bred Irish Red Setters in Gayton for many years and the
Wendover Kennel name is synonymous with the breed. Peter James is also a former
Chairman of the Kennel Club. Roy Kendall has been Gayton's Postman for 33
years and used his expertise of appeasing the local dog population to good
effect in judging the novelty classes!
