GAYTON COMPANION DOG SHOW 2006
The second Gayton Companion Dog Show was held on Saturday 9th September 2006 as
part the village's celebrations to mark
800 years of its
existence as a community large enough to support a minister for the village
church.
The venue moved from the
village green to Wendover House's paddock. Not only did this give
us more space, it was also a lot more convenient for the car park. We
were also far more fortunate with the weather, the day of the dog show seeing
glorious sunny weather.
Building on the success of the first show, we expanded the number of classes
from 13 to 18, which included 4 qualifying heats for The Kennel Club's national
Scruffts competition. Judging again took place in two
rings, with Mr Mike Stockman, MRCVS judging in Ring 1 (the pedigree classes and
the inaugural John McCarthy Trophy for the Best Gayton Dog) and Mrs Sheila
Murray judging in Ring 2 (the
novelty and Scruffts classes).
Mike unfortunately passed away on 27th August 2007. He was a renowned international judge, and we were honoured to have him judging
for us. He had been actively involved with dogs
all his life; and was a former
President of the British Veterinary Association and Chairman of the Crufts
organising committee.
