Dress dagger produced for the land based customs service-Landzoll-shown without its hanging straps but within its green, leather clad scabbard. A standard alluminium portepee is attached, although a green and silver original is rarely found. Fittings of this example are cast in  alluminium, a material not destined to produce the quality we have come to expect from the Solingen blade producers of the third Reich-this lack of detail is reflected in the lack of definition to the upswept winged customs eagle and wreath encircled swastika.

Reverse blade showing the 'scales' logo of the Alexander Coppel firm -ALCOSO. This manufacturer used five different logos on their blades during the Third Reich period, due in part to the need to suppress the Jewish background of the founder. Pristine mint reverse  crossguard. Although poor as a casting medium, alluminium does have the advantage appearing almost ageless!

The hanging straps for the dagger are silver brocade with twin green stripes, backed with green velvet. Deluxe buckles and clips are oak leaf embellished and in a perfect state of preservation.

Interior of the crossguard displays the leather blade washer still intact within the recess.
