Dress dagger produced for the land based customs service-Landzoll-shown
without its hanging straps but within its green, leather clad scabbard. A
standard alluminium portepee is attached, although a green and silver
original is rarely found. |
Fittings of this example are cast in alluminium, a material
not destined to produce the quality we have come to expect from the Solingen
blade producers of the third Reich-this lack of detail is reflected in the
lack of definition to the upswept winged customs eagle and wreath encircled
swastika. |

Reverse blade showing the 'scales' logo of the Alexander Coppel firm -ALCOSO.
This manufacturer used five different logos on their blades during the Third
Reich period, due in part to the need to suppress the Jewish background of
the founder. |
Pristine mint reverse crossguard. Although poor as a casting medium,
alluminium does have the advantage appearing almost ageless! |

The hanging straps for the dagger are silver brocade with twin
green stripes, backed with green velvet. Deluxe buckles and clips are oak
leaf embellished and in a perfect state of preservation.
|
Interior of the crossguard displays the leather blade washer still intact
within the recess. |
