English Folk or Country Dancing covers a wide variety of dance types, from what some might call Barn Dancing or Ceilidhs, to more formal dances from dancing masters of the 18th century or earlier.
There is also an American influence, as English Country Dancing was taken across by early settlers, became popular in New England and Canada, and there developed in its own way, and some were brought back to England. Line Dancing is not included as this is something completely different. We dance mostly to recorded music but occasionally there is a live band. We welcome all to join us whether you are experienced dancers or complete beginners. All dances are ‘walked through’ to ensure people are familiar with the moves, and then they are ‘called’ during the dance. The objective is to enjoy the music and dance and have some fun in a social gathering. There is no joining fee nor annual subscription, just a charge of £1.20 each evening you attend, but please bring your own hot or cold drinks (non-alcoholic) as we are unable to provide refreshments. Our Secretary Keith Williams, 01928 713 180. would be happy to provide more details. |
