Set in a very picturesque area within the “Garden of England”. We are situated on the Goudhurst road at the west end of Marden village.
Originally built in the 18th century on the site of the Old Forge. Beer has been sold here since the 1800s, quickly becoming the most popular “beer house” among the Hop Pickers in the 1940s to 1950s. The building is grade 2 listed and has been extended, but still has original beams and has kept the unique character and all important atmosphere and ambience which makes it popular with families of all generations.
A central area of Kent, ideal for travelling to many landmarks of interest. Only 8 miles from Maidstone and Tonbridge. With Ashford, Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells, Rye and Hastings, just a short distance.
The proprietors, Tina and David Wickham took over in January 1998 and introduced superb homemade and home-cooked food. Using their outstanding customer service skills they have given the village a relaxing and exciting establishment to enjoy.
David, as the head chef, has introduced many popular dishes that are of excellent quality and very reasonably priced. His extensive career has given him the opportunity to cook for royalty, ambassadors and many distinguished members of society. His heart, however, is in producing meals of the highest standard, using the best (where possible) local ingredients for this very establishment.
