This was painted in February 2008 on a bright afternoon in the north of St Marys looking north towards the island of St Martins. If you look closely you may just be able to see the red and white daymark on St Martins. Halangy beach is quiet and peaceful even in the Summer, so at this time of the year you only see the occasional local out for a walk. The beach is a haven for wildlife. I regularly see oystercatchers, turnstones etc. In the middle distance there is the suggestion of the heron fishing here. I was particularly drawn to the textures in the stone and foreshore with the water returning to the sea beneath my boots. As I paint entirely outside I have used sand and stone with the paint to enhance these textures.
