“High Life daffodils”
Watercolour with some pastel
27 1/2 inches tall x 9 3/4 inches wide.
Painted late Spring 2004, in fields to the North East of St Marys. These are some of the last daffodils to flower. The earliest are sometimes picked late August but most are picked by hand in all weathers during Autumn and Winter. Our mild climate enables the local farmers to grow these flowers before those on the mainland and get better prices at the early markets. Painting this spectacular field of daffodils called “High Life” felt like being at the foot of a river of flowers, with a wave about to break over me, quite overpowering.
