This painting was finished late Summer 2004. Humphrey is a potter on the Garrison. He and his wife Helena (an accomplished fellow artist) are good friends of mine. He is quite a character with a dry wit, (note the learner plate on the wheelbarrow!) I wanted to include him in this view outside his pottery, but Humphrey was reluctant to pose. However when visitors called them for a drink to watch the setting sun on their balcony, I took the opportunity to include them all amongst the late afternoon shadows.
