Gloucester fail to turn up
Freefall
Wasps 34 Gloucester 3
Adams Park - Wycombe - Saturday 25 April 2009

WHAT A SEASON. WHAT A WEEK.
A week that saw Gloucester suffer three defeats,
two of which were really good-hidings and concede almost a hundred points which must be some sort of record.
A season that saw Gloucester drop from top to a final league position of sixth reflects how poor the side has become, especially this year.
Last season the Cherry and Whites topped the Guinness Premiership scoring 120 more points than this time round , scoring 22 more tries in the process that gives a true reflection as to how far the club has slipped.
It is not just the fact that Gloucester have lost more games this season, the worrying aspect is the manner in which they have played, with no ambition, flair or intent.
True there has been serious disruption caused by a lengthening injury list but that is no excuse.
It is time the coaching staff admitted that the tactics they have employed have been a long way short of the mark.
Too many times when players have been played out of position, too many times when forwards have been used as first receivers, too many times when first-up tackles have been missed, too many mistakes made, too many unforced errors and the biggest tactical blunder of the season, the continual over-use of a poor kicking game.
Before the match at Wycombe the announcer hyped-up the game by saying Gloucester were fighting for a top-four place. Sadly at times there was not too much evidence of that on the field of play during the game as they went through the motions of play.
To their credit the visitors never gave up but although the youngsters tried hard individually most players under-performed as the tired team struggled to stay in touch so were never in serious contention and never looked like making a contest of the game, let alone creating a try as Wasps cruised to a comfortable bonus-point win with two tries in each half.
There was almost a sense of relief leaving Adams Park that at long last the least enjoyable season for years had at last come to an end and we do not have to suffer the indignity of another disappointing Premiership play-off debacle.
Another game best forgotten, another let-down just like the season that has just subsided.

Pricey's Postscript
Even a miaow would have been welcome this afternoon from Gloucester.
They turned up but that was about the sum total of their efforts when thankfully they put us all out of our miseries to ensure that no further humiliation will occur this season. Gloucester was bankrupt of nous, idea, spark, team spirit and given the number of unforced knock-ons, skill, too. Even the pre-match warm up seemed to be a struggle.
That Wasps only managed 34 points suggested to me that they were a poor team this season.
The pre- Christmas league position flattered to deceive the true state of affairs at Kingsholm and it is no surprise to me that they finished 6th after a season of boring tactics and mundane performances.
The coaching team have continually blamed the team for the string of poor results but in doing so they have fooled no-one.
Opposition teams had them sussed and it was so easy for them to defend against predictable attack tactics and in the end a defence that had more holes in it than my grandmother’s old colander. .
J.G.P - 25/4//2009
One could sum up this season with the chant "Same Old Gloucester always losing".
The season came to an end not yesterday but sometime in January, Gloucester had managed 5 wins away from home up till the end of December, since January no away wins.
Last season the were an abundance of bonus points only 9 this year compared to London Irish 16 (The equivalent of 4 extra wins).
Yesterday saw some tired bodies and inexperienced players thrown together in an end of season game that needed a team effort, unfortunately, although, the individuals tried hard, that was what they were a bunch of individuals.
Too many times this season, Gloucester have been a bunch of individuals, not a team.
Wasps, as usual, fought to the end of the season, one that has not been particularly brilliant for them, but they performed. This season has seen Gloucester under perform on too many occasions.
I will be there in September, season ticket in hand unlike those who threw their season tickets on to the pitch after Tuesdays game, whether it is with Mr Ryan in charge, we will have to wait and see.
Hopefully the extra few weeks rest gained from not participating in the play-offs may be of benefit to those tired bodies, lets hope so, and lets hope next season we all, players, coach and supporters come back refreshed and raring to go.
Mike,
