At a meeting of enrolling Members of a Football Club for the City,
about forty-five gentlemen joined.
Mr Frank Hartley was elected Captain and Mr J.P. Riddiford, Hon Sec."

Gloucester RFC first played at The Spa, now home of Gloucester Cricket Club.

   In 1891 Gloucester Football and Athletic Ground Company Ltd.
        was formed and let a piece of ground to G.R.F.C.

The first match played at Kingsholm was on October 10th 1892 against Burton on Trent. Gloucester won 18-0.

  Kingsholm was acquired from Arthur Hatton - it comprised of 7 acres , including Castle Grim, by Gloucester Football & Athletic Club Ltd. This company let a portion of the ground to Gloucester Rugby Union Football Club. In due course the Club purchased majority shares which enabled the club to obtain possession of the whole 7 acres.

The first Gloucester Rugby Club player to be capped by England was Frank Stout in 1897 and he played against Wales and Ireland.
