Gloucester pay the penalty as Barkley's boot bolsters Bath
Another one that got away
Bath 21 Gloucester 21
THANKFULLY the men in white coats gave me a keyboard to write these notes after confiscating all the pens, pencils and other sharp objects.
I told them that I'm totally sane but as this is my fourth visit to the unit following previous trips to Bristol, Sale and Watford I could hardly argue the point that my hysteria is only an isolated blip.
Even the large doses of Pitchfork that were forced fed to me last night couldn't stop the mental flashbacks where I relived a Bath team, that would never have scored a try in a month of Sundays, being gifted seven penalty goals to enable them to maintain their unbeaten home record against Gloucester.
You can accept the occasional penalty infringement under the posts but seven would challenge the nerves of even the strongest man.
Gloucester scored two great tries but all too often they spurned chances to turn the screw on Bath who I'm sure would have capitulated completely had another try been scored in the first half.
The Gloucester defence was proving impenetrable and the attack giving the home team nightmares but all too often Gloucester opted for the conservative option; going for a long range penalty goal rather than a field position on the Bath line from where another try would have surely resulted.
Oh well, there is always next season - I've already booked the padded cell!
