Recitals

“A lively and expressive performance on the harp by Emma Graham.... Her charm and enthusiasm for this beautiful instrument were infectious and everyone was enthralled”

North Devon Journal

Emma performs regularly as a recital soloist, whether as short, pre-dinner entertainment, or for a full evening concert. Her performances combine dazzling playing with amusing and informative spoken introductions to the music she is presenting.

While constantly searching for new repertoire, Emma has begun to introduce audiences to the more unusual aspects of the harp. As well as performing the more familiar romantic works she is also following in the footsteps of the great Harpo Marx by seeking out old jazz standards as well as exciting works influenced by Spanish and South American rhythms. These styles produce a thrilling mix of lively music which is a world away from the more traditional, angelic image of the instrument. This interest in jazz harp has resulted in her most recent recording, “Harpicide at Midnight” featuring old and new jazz for harp.

Emma’s recitals are performed on her stunning gold concert harp. Made by famed American harp makers Lyon and Healy it is a somewhat rare model, characterized by classic Art Nouveau motifs. It features a hand-carved column decorated with 23 karat gold leaf which is further enhanced with lemon gold leaf laid in the background.
