JUNIOR NEWSLETTER – MARCH 2008

The new golf season will soon be starting and we are trying to ensure that this will be a successful one for TPGC Juniors.  Here are a few of the most recent developments that we hope will encourage you to come to the club and join in junior golf activities:-

·         A new Junior Advisory Committee has recently been set up with junior and senior playing members and will shortly be recruiting two parents to join the committee.

·         “TPGC Juniors” polo shirts (Ashworth) to be available, at a subsidised price, for all junior golfers – please see attached order form.

·         An organised trip for juniors and parents to ten-pin bowling in Cardiff during the Easter holiday – please see attached reply slip.

·          A full programme of competitions and league matches throughout the season and assistance for those juniors who do not have a handicap to obtain one as quickly as possible.

 

There is, of course, ongoing provision for juniors to play golf including the Sunday reserved tee time of 2 p.m. in the winter and 3.30 p.m. in the summer (starting on Sunday 6th April).

In order to explain the plans for the coming season in more detail, a MEETING FOR ALL JUNIORS AND THEIR PARENTS/GUARDIANS WILL BE HELD AT 3.30 P.M. ON SUNDAY 16TH MARCH IN THE CLUBHOUSE.  This will be an important meeting and we hope for a full attendance – just complete the enclosed reply slip - light refreshments will be served afterwards.  If you have not already returned the parental consent form please bring it to the meeting – additional copies will also be available on the day.

 

To bring you up to date on a few other matters:-

 

·         The good news is that Junior golf funds will permit a small coach to be hired for away league matches.  Hopefully this will encourage full participation in these matches and provide the added benefit of accompanying adults not having to use their cars with associated insurance implications.  The first Junior match is on Friday 16th May at  St. Pierre – an excellent venue for our first fixture of the season so please join the team if you are asked to play.  

·         You will, no doubt, be aware that the club has been successful in its bid to the Ryder Cup Legacy Fund for a Driving Range and short course on the current practice area.  This new development, which will hopefully be completed by the summer, will be of great assistance to golfers of all abilities.

·         The Junior Section has provided the funds for a new club flag that should shortly be flying proudly outside the clubhouse.  There is also a planned initiative to apply to the Woodland Trust for a “Copse Pack” that consists of 30 native trees that are suitable for planting on the course – the species are rowan, silver birch and wild cherry.  These should be delivered during Autumn 2008 in time for National Tree Week.

·         Finally, the Annual Junior Section Car Park Space Raffle is now under way.  Tickets are only £1 each and you can buy them in the Pro. shop or over the bar – please support this important fundraising initiative.  The draw will take place at the Captain’s Drive In on Sunday 30th March.

 

There has been a welcome response to assist with the organisation of the Junior Section and the following members will be sharing the duties and responsibilities:-

Rhys Norville (Club Director/Junior Organiser), Mike Jones (Junior Captain), Gareth Tyler (Past Junior Captain), Sarah Evans (Girls’ Organiser), Mark Phillips (Club Professional), Les Parry (Club Vice Captain) and John Sexton (Chair of Membership & Marketing Committee).
