Question 2

Through the green a player touches a loose impediment near his ball and his ball moves.

You say 18-2 rather than 23-1. 18-2 is the rule which lists the circumstances when there is penalty/no penalty and refers the reader to other rules in specific cases. 23-1 is the specific rule which deals with LI’s and ball movement. The player is penalized under 18-2 but the procedure is described in 23-1.

{ Perhaps you could give an opinion on why there is a 23-1 when there is only one subsection yet there is only one subsection in rule 28 but there is no 28-1 J }

Question 16

The committee prohibits the use of golf carts under a condition of competition.

A little nit-picketty but rule 33-1 deals with the general powers that a committee may have in overall charge of a competition. There is no mention of transportation. Appendix I Part C9 deals with the specific issue of transportation.

Question 21

The committee decide, due to exceptional circumstances, to waive the penalty of disqualification.

You say 33-1. I say 33-7 Once again 33-1 is general and 33-7 specific.

Question 24

A player practices chipping near the teeing ground before his opponent plays his first stroke.

You say 7-2.(during round) I say it could be 7-1.(before round) or 7-2

The question is a little ambiguous in that if a player goes round in 100 shots then "his first stroke" is before the first tee. If you are meaning the "first stroke of the hole" (other than the first) then it is during the round. Clarification needed.

Question 26

A player claims relief from a pile of grass cuttings abandoned and left in the rough.

Whilst your answer of 25-1 is correct generally, reference should be made to Note 1 under the definition of ground under repair for a specific answer.

Question 28

A player touches a twig lying in the sand with his club on his back swing when playing from a bunker.

The note to 23 is worth considering also but in this instance this is the general and

13-4 the specific.

Question 34

A player in stroke play plays from the wrong teeing ground.

I say 11-4 and you 11-5. Although the provisions of 11-4 apply the subsection is 11-5 for wrong teeing ground.

Question 39

A player removes a blade of grass adhering to his ball.

Again 23 is the rule governing LI’s but the specific answer is contained within the definition.

Question 42

A player moves sand and soil from the apron of the green.

Reference to the Definition should be considered as this is the only place where it is specified that there is a difference between sand and soil on or off the green.

Question 43

The caddie moved the position of the ball.

13-2 is more appropriate than 1-2 , the very first point.

Question 57

The maximum of 14 clubs in a 4-ball stroke play.

4-4 rather than 31-3 for 31-3 refers the reader back to the provisions of 4-4.

Question 61

A match is won when one side leads by a number of holes greater than the number remaining to be played.

This is a typing error for you have typed 23 instead of 2-3.
