G.S.T. Memories

"WE ALL SAID THE SAME THING, AT THE TIME WE DIDN'T APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT WE WERE GOING TO A TOP SCHOOL, THE LIKES OF WILL NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN. JUST THINK ABOUT GETTING CANED, HAVING THE BLACKBOARD CLEANER THROWN AT YOU, BEING HIT WITH A RULER, SLAPPED ON THE BACK OF THE HEAD, TAKEN INTO THE GYM BY VINCE TO BOX FOR BEING A CLEVER TWAT AND GETTING BEAT, TODAY ALL OF THE TEACHERS WOULD BE DOING TIME. BUT THAT IS WHAT'S LACKING NOW GOOD OLD DISCIPLINE THE TYPE GRANT DEALT OUT VERY FAIRLY" Baz Buncher

Did you ever go into the loft? where Vince kept all his copies of the National Geographic, he must have had hundreds of them, there was also an old brass compass and ships wheel up there ....Paul Lowthorpe

YOUR MEMORIES HERE!!

When Vince used to draw a circle on the chalk board, he always said "It takes a hundred years of practice to draw a perfect circle, and I can almost do it"...Paul L

Me and a couple of other lads from our class had to accompany, I think it was Jack Rippon and a class of lads down to the harbour, Jack went down by car I think, anyway after the usual row around the bay,  we were entrusted with taking them back up to school, oh dear! as it was just before dinnertime us older lads decided to use the dinner hour productively, picture Fagin and boys from Oliver Twist! must have been 25 of us !
In those days  the amusements on the sea front opened for business about 11ish and to pull the customers in they used to let people have two or three games of bingo free - of course we couldn't resist this so we dragged the younger lads from one arcade to the other gaining stuffed toys, sweets + what have you + a bit of cash in the process which was naturally squandered - on chips for the lot of us from the chippie!!  Then of course it was then time for us to go + face the music ! as we were a tad late getting back + all of them had missed  school dinner ,old Mr Herbert went ballistic as you can imagine, I always seemed to get the blame as "I should Know better" according to him, apparently they were just about to phone the law, I think old Jack got a bollocking too!.... Seven Bells (three pairs and a single) home time, we all tried to volunteer to ring the bell, but no one ever wanted to stand under the bell, though most of us had to !...Paul L

Not often that anybody got away with anything with Mr Grant but I did!

Remember "smokers corner" at the side of the gym, old Granty used to have a fair bit of success collaring the unfortunates from our class there, however although he got the cigs they were smoking he always failed to find the rest of the packet...Which to say the least caused him great annoyance + severe retribution to the poor sods he apprehended! Strangely it never occurred to him, because he knew I was a non smoker, to search me..... The Tobacco Baron

If you remember the blackboards, one in our class was on a large wooden frame on wheels, the writing surface was like a conveyor belt and would roll around, we used to put the duster on the top, so it would fall when the teacher turned it, missed most of the time...... Paul Lowthorpe
