How we give our Cats a tablet

Required:
  • 2 people

  • Worming Pills

  • Towel or blanket for lap - sometimes the claws appear briefly

  • Comfortable seat with room for second person to stand beside you

Method:

Ensure that you hold the tablet the right way to slide down the cat's throat. 1. Person one to sit on chair with towel on lap and cat on towel - pet the cat
2 Person two, ensure to hold the tablet flat so that it slides down the throat easily
3. Person one to take a firm grip of the cat at the back of the neck - where the mother cat would hold a kitten.  Lift the cat up onto back legs, so that it is sitting on it's bottom, be sure to pull the head quite far back but not to make the cat uncomfortable.  The whole point  of this is to keep the cat as happy as possible
The cat is secure and not bothered 4. Person two opens the cat's mouth, I normally just poke my finger between the teeth and quickly pop the table down the throat.
5. Let the cat down and make a fuss of it, feed small treat if wanted.
6. Treat all wounds with anti-septic cream.

Notice how Eva seems to be quite relaxed, her ears are pricked forward, she's not howling or struggling.

We frequently, when petting the cats, will lift them by the scruff of the neck and maybe tickle their tummies or whatever, they soon get used to it and stop associating it with anything horrible.

I hope this method works for you - it certainly does for us, and it's nice to have cats that don't go in the huff for two days because they have had such a traumatic time!

I would just like to say that you try this procedure at your own risk - I can take no responsibility for any damage caused to you or your cat.  This method has worked for us - it may not suit you and your cats.
