Even if I play really badly I get the odd hit that I am really pleased with, and when I'm on form, well! There's no stopping me. I even win occasionally! lol I started playing on HL1 and met the boys from The Sanctuary there, then for Christmas was given Halflife 2 (HL2). Electric Warrior and Captain Hornet, run The Sanctuary UK and are mappers, they re-created Castle Overload (the best ever Half Life 1 map - imho) for HL2. Brilliant, especially to someone like me who just struggled on with problems not really noticing when things weren't really as they should be, but for the guys who upgraded the map, it wasn't good enough! They decided to entirely re-create the map, fixing all of the problems and adding new secrets, updating the images, all sorts of things. What an awesome job they made of it. All of these maps can be downloaded at The Sanctuary UK The guys have now bought a server so that they have the best control over their system and they run it well. The server is a place where anyone can play. The action is fast but if it is known that you are new then most sanctuary members will give you a bit of space. There are rules to be followed, that's what makes it a good place to play.
I am now an admin on the server and when the rules are not followed then players can expect to be told off and that includes kicking abusive players, players who keep shooting players facing the wall, spawn killers, players who chant sexual or racial abuse or players with pornographic sprays who don't stop using them. This hardly ever happens, I'm glad to say, but best to let people know the rules. It's easy for new players to be so engrossed in trying not to die, that they don't see the messages. Mapping I was very intrigued with the mapping process and with Electric Warrior and Captain Hornet allowing me to check out some of their maps for them, I started to get a feel for what I would like in a map. I wanted to make a map for the guys and decided that I would make Grandma's Place so they could visit me - even if it was only virtually! Now, I'm the sort of person who, once starting something, will keep on with it until it is done. I like to see things finished and I tend to get focussed on what I am doing, to the exclusion of everything else. This map has for various reasons fallen by the wayside and to pick it back up I have decided to make another different map. I have had various problems (including accidentally deleting my steam and re-installing and losing all my maps), getting a new computer and taking ages to get it working to my satisfactions. Loads of things have got in the way but the new map is interesting, I'm currently working on textures. It will probably be called dm_grandma_blue. I will have a page of links to sites that have helped me a lot, a page of links to things that I have done that may help other people and there will be loads of pictures.
