Objects are the best sitters, small ones can be held in place by a bit of blu-tack, large ones tend to be fastened in place while the sunlight gently moves around them. I have tried to chose pictures which capture the purpose of an object, and say something about its strengths and weaknesses. From an artistic point of view it is often the least aesthetically designed objects which come to life when you look through the camera, like a rusty gearwheel which was never designed to be seen.
The commercial object photography is related more closely to identification and procurement, and is part of a larger process of manufacturing, or maintenance. The process of taking the pictures is relatively quick, usually stock does not need to be removed from site, as long as there is room to set up a few lights. Cutting out the backgrounds takes a little longer but saves time and money when publishing online.
