Twenty years ago, a portrait was something that was taken behind closed doors, in a studio with its cumbersome lighting and often intimidating atmosphere. With only a choice of attire to hint at the colour and vibrancy of the sitters personality and a piece of sticky tape to keep the kids amused, the results were predictable to say the least. While those methods are still used with models, modern portable flash equipment allows me to create professional looking shots in the surroundings of the sitter. I am often asked to document a person 'in action' so-to-speak or with a favorite animal or form of transport. Anniversaries and weddings are another source of portrait opportunities both candid and arranged.
