Julie Tortora, BA Cert Ed BWY,runs a number of mixed ability Hatha Yoga classes in the Crouch End area of North London. The groups are small and friendly and take place in a calm and comfortable home environment. The individual's needs are catered for and the practice is non-competitive. Several of the classes are held quite late in the evening and are popular with people who may get home from work late or who have small children to get to bed before they go out. The core teachings i.e. posture work (Asana), breathing exercises (Pranayama), emotional cleansing techniques (Kriya), relaxation and meditation skills are approached in a varied and interesting way. Variety is the spice of life and if Yoga is to be a living, developing practice it will be constantly opening to new approaches and insights over the course of time. Yoga has been described as "wisdom in action". Students are encouraged to be creative in their approach to Yoga and to understand its potential as an inspiration in daily life, physically, emotionally and mentally.
