Deep Relaxation "Yoga Nidra" ".. without harmony there is no contemplation. Without contemplation there cannot be peace, and without peace can there be joy? " Bhagavad Gita Yoga Nidra means the sleep of the Yogis. In reality it is not sleep at all but an harmonious state of physical and mental relaxation. Usually practiced in a comfortable lying position, it can also be done sitting in a chair. Relaxing music may be used to create a peaceful atmosphere and then the mind is guided through a concentration exercise incorporating body awareness, breath awareness and creative visualization. These three tasks involve the functioning of different parts of the brain. The resultant relaxation is widespread through both hemispheres of the brain, and bodily and emotional release is profound. The practice is progressive and research has shown that, with repetition, the relaxation occurs more quickly and more deeply. In the peaceful state of Yoga Nidra the mind is very open to positive thinking and you can accompany the practice with mental resolutions to create more joy in daily life. Julie Tortora offers courses in Yoga Nidra in the Crouch End area of North London. They take place in small groups in a friendly home environment.
Gentle Yoga for Backs & Joints "An upright posture and a few relaxed breaths can make a great difference." Buddha
At times you may be experiencing physical difficulties or stiffness which make attending a General Yoga Class unsuitable. However, gentle movements of the joints or back may be highly recommended. You may need motivation to do particular exercises that you have been given by your doctor or physiotherapist. In these circumstances Julie Tortora offers individual sessions and an on-going Class for Backs and Joints where you can increase mobility, improve posture and help alleviate pain. These take place in small groups in a friendly home environment in the Crouch End area of North London. |
