WaterpoloDVDs.com  F.A.Q.

  1. Will these DVDs play in on my DVD player?

- 95% Yes. Every effort has been made to make them as compatible as possible with as many DVD players as possible within the constraints of using recordable DVD-Rs. They work on standalone DVD players, Playstation 2’s, computers etc. I’ve only heard of 2 DVD players that couldn’t navigate the menus, although they still played the matches fine.  The DVD-R’s are Ritek G04 ink discs which are the most compatible brand.

They are not encoded into any region and do not have Macrovision protection, so should play on any DVD player.

2.      What’s the quality like?

Superb. I’ve tried to get the best quality possible and the latest matches are off satellite and near perfect mpeg2 transport streams captured in raw format directly from the satellite. I’ve put a rough guide to video quality on the last column (0 – 10) with 10 being a satellite recording with high bitrate and good camera / lighting.   However, some of the earlier matches of great importance like the Barcelona 92 finals are off video that is now old. I digitized these well but they’re noticeably not as good as the 2004 Olympic set – still very watchable and great entertainment!

3.      How long will they take to arrive?

I send all DVD’s via Royal mail 1st class from the UK and they say they should take 1 working day within the UK, and 5 internationally. They are not always reliable and some have taken 8 working days to get there internationally.

4.      Which are the best games to watch?

My favourites are: 2004 Olympic finals HUN-SCG, 2004 Olympic semi’s SCG-GRE (superb technical play by SCG); World Champs 2001 Fukuoka YUG-ESP, 1992 Olympics Barcelona ESP-ITA (6 periods of extra time – very tense!); 2000 Olympics Sydney semi finals –both RUS-ESP and HUN-YUG; World Champs 2001 Barcelona HUN-ITA. And basically anything with Hungarians in it!

5.      I don’t understand the commentary language, will this detract from the games?

No, not really if you know the rules and what the players are doing tactically. Can be good for knowing what’s going on with complex play like illegal time outs and obscure refereeing decisions e.g. ITA-SCG World Champs 2003 Semis last 20 seconds http://www.fina.org/bcn03_wpmenreports11.html .
