Marriages - Turney, Mr to Miss Bates.
The Times Newspaper 27th August 1793 (page 3 col.d)
On Thursday last, at Halifax Mr. William Turney of Wood St., London to Miss Bates daughter of Thomas Bates of Halifax.

William was a Hosier and had warehouses at Lad Lane and Milk St. according to Directories for the London area. He married Judith Bates of Halifax in 1793 and between then and his death they had three children. William, Thomas and John. Father William died in 1800 aged approximately 42 and Judith died in 1802 aged 34. Leaving three little boys to be kept and looked after. In Judith's will, her executors are her father Thomas Bates and her brother William Bates. Judith's father Joseph Bates brought the boys up in the Halifax area. We know that Judith's son William died in 1806 and is buried in Sedgebrook. The parish register states that he is the son of William and Judith of London which whilst true, was 4 or so years out of date by then. Maybe he died in Yorkshire and was taken to Sedgebrook.
