So, soon after Ann Maria and William were married, they left for Bengal, accompanied by sister Elizabeth Dobree. Was Elizabeth to live with them and be company for her sister ?. Imagine their delight when Ann's child was born in August 1827. How he would be spoilt by the 2 girls. Meanwhile Elizabeth must have met her husband to be, William John Baptist Knyvett. But their happiness was not to last, Ann Maria died in September 1827 leaving a small baby. Did Elizabeth then take over and care for little William ?. How she must have missed her sister when she married on the 10th March 1828 in Cawnpore. Further grief for the already sad father, William Aldous, when his child died in June 1828. He had lost his wife and child. A great sadness indeed. William Knyvett's regiment was returning home in 1829 on the Ship Abberton when Elizabeth was taken ill on board and died, she was buried at sea.

We grieve to say that the Cole campaign of this year seems to be followed by the same melancholy effect on the health of the troops as in the former operations against the Lurka Coles in 1820. The 38th native infantry have returned to Midnapore; the surgeon (Macra), we are informed, and 2 more officers (Lieutenant Fullyrton and Mesham) have fallen victims to the pestilential effects of the climate. - The rest of the officers, almost all of whom at one time were more or less affected, are lilely to recover - Hurkaru, June 4.
We are sorry to have to add to the names of Ensign Maningford and Quartermaster-serjeant Curtis, of the 38th native infantry, to the lists of European victims to the climate of Cole country, Captain Aldous, and Ensigns Pocklington and Pinder, are also very ill. Colonel Doveton is, we hear, doing well, and likely to recover. Major Mosely and Captain Hawkins are reported convalescent; Lieut Knyvett and Ensigns Bird and Cook are recovering. Captain Horsburgh, Lieut Wilton and Ensign Hollings did not go out from Midnapore, and have, therefore, escaped the fever, which has upon all who did. 250 Sepoys are sick out of 400. Hurkaru, June 5.
We have been favoured with the sight of a letter from Midnapore, dated the 8th instant, which states that "every house at the station, occupied or unoccupied, has been converted into a hospital. All the officers of the 38th aare now in cantonments, and the corps (about 50 strong) coming in without a single European attached to it. You may judge of the gloom that prevails here. So many deaths - so many sick - and only one mediacl man to attend to them all. - Bengal Hurkaru Jun 6.
