- Lifeboat Day at Moelfre - Saturday 22nd August 2009 -

The Robert & Violet and Enfys

Our big day is approaching and we hope you will all be looking forward to Moelfre R.N.L.I. Lifeboat Day August 22nd 2009 - This is one of the biggest R.N.L.I. fund raising events in Wales so please come along and join us in the fun.

This year we have 2 keen cyclists who are keen to raise funds for us. They are:-
Mark Coleman
Mark has been coming to the Island for a good few years now and fell in love with the place the first time he came. He has two boys, Cameron and Ellis and is married to Carolyn. Mark enjoys watersports around the Island and is proud to be raising funds for such a fantastic cause and group of people, who risk their own lives to save others every time they put out to sea.

and

Simon Fern
Simon has been holidaying on Anglesey since the age of 5 and really treats it as his second home. He is married to Ali and has a son, Callum and daughter, Ellie. Simon has been boating around the Island for around 30 years and has probably been to most lifeboat days in that time. After years of coming and "throwing a few pounds in the bucket" he decided that it would be a good idea to really show his appreciation for a fantastic and brave crew and the committed families of Moelfre.

So, Simon and Mark are going to miss most of Lifeboat Day this year. Instead they will leave Moelfre around 8 am and head out towards Holyhead on their bicycles.Their route will take them on the main road through Dulas and Cemaes and then onto the lifeboat station at Holyhead where they will stop briefly for a photo. From there they will take the short ride onto Trearddur lifeboat station where they will again take time for a photo before heading out on the longest leg of the journey, down the A5 to Beaumaris, stopping for a brief lunch stop en route (energy bar!) and go on to Beaumaris lifeboat station to complete their final stop before heading "home" to Moelfre up the small hill, out of Beaumaris (!!??) They hope to do this in 4 and a half to 5 and a half hours, depending on weather and lengths of stops during the journey.
They both hope you will all give generously towards their fund raising and to show your appreciation. For this reason we have arranged a sponsor system through Justgiving.com and we would be thrilled to bits if you would like to sponsor Mark and Simon on their journey, raising funds for Moelfre Lifeboat. Please, if you wish to sponsor them would you click on this link :-

The Fund Raising Team and crew wish them all the best

This year again, we have many stalls with a huge array of stock, from Jewellery, Cards, Dolls, Gifts, 2nd hand goods, handicrafts, tombolas, Gardening supplies, children’s wear etc. There will be funfair rides for the children and we will also have a magician for a short period of time at a time to be announced later and face painting. There will be the usual fancy dress for the children and a disco after the day’s events. We will be choosing a local Lifeboat princess and Mascot for the year 2009. Helen’s Wool Shop will be open for knitting wool and patterns and our local gift shop Twm Pen Stryd well stocked as usual and serving food in the café behind. The Moelfre Stores will be open, and the Wheel and Anchor Fish and Chips Restaurant, along with Ann’s Pantry and the local Pubs, the Kinmel Arms and Oak Lodge. Laura’s Caban will be open on the sea front in the heart of the activities. With so many people visiting the village we will also have the Hog Roast man and other food outlets. Free parking will be provided in the field opposite the Oak Lodge [donations gratefully received].

Reckless Elbow & Pigs Ear providing the music as normal and our comperes for the day will provide us with much entertainment.

The Army is providing us with an assault course for the children for the first time and it is anticipated that this will be very popular. This will be held in the big field close to the Lifeboat Station.

The boathouse will be open from 10 am and guided tours of the boathouse will be given with an opportunity for photographs to be taken with boat and crew. The boats launch quite late this year due to the tide and this is around 12.30pm. After this is the usual display from the rescue squad and conditions and weather permitting we may have the helicopter. Eventually fun and games from the Lifeboats and local boats, don’t go into the fray if you wish to stay dry. I have my suspicions that last year the local boats won!.
