Lifeboat Day from the Search & Rescue Helicopter photograph by RAF Valley

Thank-you everybody, residents and visitors alike, for joining in with us for this fabulous day.

Anther fantastic result from all. With a record breaking 9-10,000 visitors on the day we can provisionally announce a sum of £7,000 raised with more to come in yet.

Moelfre Lifeboat Day dawned with yet again good weather. Stallholders were already busy in the village at 7am getting their stalls and displays arranged. The day began at 10am when the boathouse started their guided tours of the boats and there was a steady stream of visitors all morning until launch time. The day opened officially with the arrival of the Batala Samba Reggae Band who proceeded down the hill into the village with their drums thumping, arms swirling and the unmistakable red and white outfits. They are amazing. They treated us to a brilliant display in the village harbour and everyone was swaying and tapping to the music. The village was full to bursting. The whole scene was a very colourful and busy picture.

Launch time was 1pm and both boats launched. The "Robert & Violet" launched through a coloured firework display and to the music of "Ride of the Valkeries". Above her the SAR Helicopter from Valley swooped over the top of the boathouse and they all made their way out to sea. The rocks and coastal path were lined with visitors all watching the display.

The Inshore Lifeboat, Enfys and the ILB Capsize Dinghy followed the All Weather Lifeboat and together they gave a demonstration of the RNLI capsize and re-righting procedures. A Winching exercise was demonstrated between the SAR Helicopter from RAF Valley and the Lifeboats. Shortly after this we had a fly past of the Wales Air Ambulance which just happened to be in the vicinity. A bonus indeed.

During the display the boats were called to 2 emergencies, details of these have are covered in the newspapers and on the Boathouse web site.

The Lifeboat Day Committee would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts on the day and to all helpers who make this day so special each year. Thank-you to all the visitors who return year after year, we hope you all enjoyed the day.
