Births, Marriages & Deaths from the Times Newspaper, and much more,

A new CD-ROM produced by myself. It is made up of pdf files so Adobe Acrobat Reader is necessary to open the files. This is freely obtained as a download from the internet. It is available either on CD-ROM or as a downloadable file (broadband recommended). The files are alphabetically produced and are also fully searchable. The cost of the CD is £5.00 and £2.00 for postage & packing but if you purchase it as a downloadable file then the cost is £4.00.
The initial inspiration for these indexes were the contents of “The Times Newspaper”. When I came to transcribe the entries in full I found in some cases they were severely lacking in detail. For instance marriages frequently record only surnames. Hence I used other sources to fill in the gaps. To date I have used the IGI and Pallot in particular to fill in marriage gaps. For the deaths I have been able to use The National Archives Web Site to find details of wills which were proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. In other cases I have found information on the Internet on sites such as Peerage.com, Wikepedia & The Gentleman’s Magazine. Any text that is written within brackets is extra detail found from the other sources which I have noted. If a Christian name is found in the name column which is not given in the main entry then this also has been obtained from elsewhere.
The dates covered on this CD - Volume 1, are:
For all three Files:-
Births Marriages & Deaths 1787 & 1788 complete.
Births, alphabetically, mostly surnames only.
Marriages alphabetically, Dates not always given, but added if I have found them, sometimes I have added witnesses from Pallot.
Deaths alphabetically. A wonderful source of information held within these entries. Frequently entertaining, sometimes “over the top”, sometimes “too much information”, other occasions, what you would expect of a death announcement.
This is the history of London and other towns passing in front of your eyes. It has been a pleasure to produce this index and I have learned so much doing it. You may wish to know that I have been involved in Family History for over 30 years and am well aware of the many pitfalls that can come our way.
A few samples from the death entries:
07/07/1787- A few days ago, Mrs Wilson, the seventh wife of Mr. Nicholas Wilson, farmer and grazier, at the Five Willowwrath, South Kime, Lincolnshire.
09/07/1787- Last week at Scawby, near Brigg in Lincolnshire, the Rev. John Empson, vicar of that place.
05/01/1787 - On Thursday se'nnight died, in Lissey-street, Dublin, -------Barry Esq., of the County of Cork. His death was occasioned by a total suppression of all evacuation, though he was attended by most of the faculty in Dublin. Mr Barry was supposed to have been the fattest man ever seen in Ireland, being 41 stone weight, the famous Edward Bright, of Maiden in Sussex being only 2 stone heavier. It was with difficulty 16 men could manage the corpse to the hearse and the grave, in committing him to which, the rope broke, and the coffin tumbled in. It is evident that his wonderful accumulation of flesh plugged up the viscera and destroyed the perifraltic motion of the intestines.
28/03/1788 - On Monday last, at his apartments in Swallow-street, St James, Mr Samuel House, only son of the late celebrated Sam House of Wardour-street, Soho. What he has left he had given by his will to his father's favourite housekeeper, and her daughter, his natural sister, except a few trifling legacies among some of his particular friends.
The Morris Saga - A 72 page PDF on CD about Martha Turney of Sedgebrook and her husband John Morris and their family. It covers the years 1764-1891. Another little gem of history that has unfurled itself from the newspapers and archives. Contact me if you wish to buy a copy.
If you wish to purchase CD’s, or files please get in touch with me.

All I ask of you is please respect the hours I have spent producing these indexes and do not do offer look ups over the internet or make copies of the disc or files. Thank-you.
