Powerboats have become extremely popular in the last few years and rightly so. They offer a reasonably easy way into exploring the marine environment without needing large amounts of personal skill - certainly less than either sailing or kayaking. Having said this, no-one should venture out onto the water/sea without at least a basic understanding of the rules that apply to boats on that particular environment. This might involve basic knowledge such as which side of a channel a boat should  drive on, how to read a tide table, what the buoyage system means etc. All of our courses aim to give you the required information to enable you to be an informed, safe, considerate and careful driver of a powerboat at whatever level you require.

If you already have, or are intending to buy your own powerboat, we strongly recommend that you aim for at least RYA Level 2 - in some instances you will not be able to insure your boat without this qualification.

Staff running our courses will have at least the appropriate RYA Powerboat Instructor's Certificate for that level of course

The centre has three powerboats. A  3.8 metre Jeanneau Rigiflex 15 hp, a 4.8 metre Ribcraft 40hp and a 5.5 metre XS R.I.B. 75hp.

Can't Make Our Dates?

If you have two or more people we can arrange your own

powerboat course at any level for you, either during the week or at a weekend.

Please contact the Centre direct.
