Welcome to the web site of The Hanwell Community Observatory. Below you will find links to a variety of topics and projects devoted to the promotion of amateur astronomy. These range from the specialist observation of double stars, the hosting of star parties and other public events, to the construction of two 30" astronomical telescopes: a 30" f/6 reflector designed and being built by the group, and the recommisioning of a folded 30" f/12 refractor designed and made by John Wall.

We are particularly indebted to the Royal Society and British Association for granting us funding from the Millennium Awards scheme which has made this project possible. The project has also had a substantial grant from Banbury Charities and support from Cherwell District Council for site work. In 2001 Raleigh International UK made the first of their now annual visits to work on the project.

We hope you will find this site of interest and we welcome any comments or suggestions on how we could better develop the site itself, and the various activities currently done by the group.
