Deep Sky Observations - Andromeda

M31 : Galaxy.

Huge, very bright. A showpiece galaxy. With a broadband light pollution filter (I use an Astronomik CLS), on the very darkest, clearest of nights shows a very definate hint of a dust lane. With the 32mm Televue Plossl I can just squeeze the companion galaxies M32 and M110 into the same field of view.

891 : Galaxy.

Edge-on spiral. I find this very, very difficult. Glimpsed as small, faint elongated glow with averted vision.

965 : Open Cluster.

A small rather sparse collection of medium-bright stars, somewhat uninteresting even at high power.

7009 : Planetary Nebula

One of the best planetaries. Appears as a very bright blue ball, hence the name Blue Snowball Nebula. With OIII filter at x200 - slightly elliptical with a darker centre giving an almost ringlike appearance.
