6755 : Open cluster |
There is nothing here that really stands out as a cluster but there is loose scattering of a dozen or so faint stars of 11mag and below |
6790 : Planetary nebula |
Quite easy, given it's published magnitude, visible as a faint, fuzzy "blue" star. With the OIII filter it becomes much brighter. I'd say it wasn't quite stellar, approx. 2" dia.? |
6749 : Globular cluster |
Extremely faint. Glimpsed only as very, slight brightening. Difficult. |
6760 : Globular cluster |
Only really visible on the most transparent of nights. A very small, very faint, fuzzy patch, gradually brighter towards the middle. Best results at higher powers with averted vision. |
6741 : Planetary nebula |
Not visible without OIII filter, but when "blinking" at low powers it stands out a mile! Quite bright, but only stellar in appearance. |
6781 : Planetary nebula |
Just about visible without OIII if you look very carefully. With OIII filter it shows a large(ish) disc, distinctly brighter on the precedeing side making it look crescent shaped. One of my favourites. However it does need really good conditions to see it clearly. |
6803 : Planetary nebula |
Stellar. Extremely faint, I could only confirm it by blinking with the OIII filter. |
6804 : Planetary nebula |
Invisible without the OIII with the filter in place shows up as a very, very faint but obvious misty patch some 10"(?) in dia. I've found averted vision is needed to really make the most of this. |
6840 : Asterism |
Despite it having a NGC designation this isn't a real cluster merely an asterism. Although this small, faint, grouping of stars looks more like a cluster than some real real clusters! |
6843 : Asterism |
As the above not a real cluster, but this tiny group of stars is quite conspicuous despite being relatively faint. |
6738 : Open Cluster |
A large, very loose conglomeration of about a dozen stars. Nothing really special. |
6709 : Open Cluster |
One of the best clusters in Aquila. Roughly 40+ stars of mag 9 and below arranged in a vaguely triangularshape. Not a bad target. |
Dark nebulae |
The majority of dark nebulae are fairly difficult beasts to pin down with some certainty. However Aquila contains a few quite good examples, B142-3, LDN 673 and LDN 684 are particularly noticable as large murky patches almost devoid of stars in what are otherwise quite rich starfields. |
