Cygnus

[ Finder Chart ]

6834 : Open cluster.

Not easy to find against a rich Milky Way background. Approx. two dozen stars embedded in a soft blue glow. Looks best at higher powers. There is what appears to be a tiny 'sub' cluster separated by a dark lane.

6857 : Planetary nebula.

Very faint. Really benefits from use of OIII filter - a soft glowing disc 12"+ dia. Best with low power and averted vision.

Veil Nebula : Supernova remnant.

A thin arc of pale silver light extends slightly beyond field of view with 25mm eyepiece. Upper and lower segments are somewhat brighter than the middle. On a very dark, clear night shows some filamentary structure. Requires OIII filter.
