what is CAMRA LocAle?

LocAle is a campaign, originally launched in 2007 by CAMRA's Nottingham branch, aimed at promoting local pubs and local brewers whilst also helping to do something, however small, to help save the planet. The idea's pretty simple. As a branch we offer accreditation to any pub which is permanently committed to selling locally brewed real ale . When we say local we're talking about the beer being sourced from within roughly twenty five miles of the pub.

They don't have to sell the same beer all the time nor stick to the same brewery. They just need to have at least one ale from within that twenty mile radius at all times. And if they do, we'll gladly mention them on this web-page and in CAMRA newsletters as well as providing them with an explanatory leaflet, a poster, pump toppers and a window sticker.

The logic behind the initiative is fairly obvious especially in these times of growing consumer demand for quality local produce and increased awareness of 'green' issues. Benefits include:-

- consumers having the choice of drinking a quality local real ale
- licensees gaining additional custom from publicity generated by the LocAle scheme
- the local economy because more money is spent and retained locally
- the local community gaining a sense of loyalty and pride towards local beers they can identify with
- the environment due to fewer 'beer miles' resulting in less road congestion and pollution

If you feel you qualify then e-mail the branch's LocAle Co-Ordinator for a quick chat.
