wrexham
and suburbia real ale pubs
(last
updated 12/10/2009)
It's
surely fair to say that Wrexham centre isn't one of the better
areas for real ale. Bland national beers (if you find them) and keg rule the
roost thus making a tour of the town's hostelries a truly depressing
night out for the uninitiated. Shame really as Wrexham was once proud home to the Border brewery which used to churn out some
popular real ales including Exhibition Mild. Sadly Border was
swallowed by Marston's Brewery which, in due course, was
incorporated into the burgeoning Wolverhampton & Dudley empire.
As a consequence of all this, what real ale there is to be found is
often in some of the old Border tied houses although Marstons
Pedigree and Banks Bitter nowadays come well down the pecking order
for the majority of discerning drinkers.
