Saturday
|
|
We arrived at Walesby Forest and set up camp. Our first meal was
chicken curry and naan bread. We played badminton and baseball. |
Sunday
|
|
On Sunday we established our camp with some pioneering projects. We
set up chopping areas, made a gateway and a traversing crane. We got
to know the site by doing an orienteering challenge. We also went
scavenging for wood for our fires. |
Monday
|
|
Monday was camp cooking day. We cooked bacon and eggs for breakfast
and spaghetti bolognaise for tea. Later on after supper, the sky was
clear enough for a spot of star gazing. |
Tuesday
|
|
Every day starts with inspection; Tuesday's was a camp inspection. We
get points for good and tidy patrol areas, and points mean prizes!
Tuesday afternoon we went down to the lake for kayaking |
Wednesday
|
|
Wednesday was wet!!! We had breakfast outside, in the sun. But
later on it rained, and rained and rained.
It rained on the barbecue and it rained on the climbing and
abseiling (sorry, no photos of the abseiling due to lack of an underwater camera). Later
on, the rain eased off and the sun came out for a red evening sky and
rainbows. |
Thursday
|
|
Thursday, we woke to clear blue skies, and played crazy golf. Some of
those who could not do kayaking on Tuesday had a go today. We also
start to build our rafts for the big event of the week ... tomorrow's
raft race. |
Friday
|
|
Today is raft-race day, but first we have some investitures and group
photos. Four scouts were invested into the troop. In the afternoon we
take our finely tuned, sleek racing rafts down to the lake. We rebuild
them (because they don't survive the journey) and we launch them. The
outcome is as expected: the rafts are destroyed, everyone is soaked and
no-one knows who won.
In the evening we have camp fire skits, songs and marshmallows. |
Saturday
|
|
That's it! Saturday has come round again and we pack up to go home.
Big thanks to Simon Smedley of HGV Direct (Buxton) for transporting all our
gear to and from Walesby - we could not have done it with out him. |
