Hiltingbury Community Association is run for the community by the community. Our ultimate aim is to build a community centre. In the meantime we have launched a social programme. A bi-monthly bulletin includes events in and around Hiltingbury. Some are organized by HCA whilst others are public events which might be of interest to those living in Hiltingbury. Summary of events for October/November 2005

 

September 27th – October 1st Play: “Quartet” by Ronald Harwood directed by HCA’s Emma Golby-Kirk.  Three retired musicians are reminiscing when their tranquility is shattered. A hilarious play about the eccentricities of old age, art and celebrity. Plaza Theatre, Romsey.  A party from HCA will be there (in the back row) on Thursday evening.

 

Tuesday 4th October Four week course in Salsa for Absolute Beginners starts with Bonita.  Partners optional. They even offer a cure for the “two left feet syndrome”. Ford Social Club, Wide Lane, Swaythling, near the airport. £5 on the door each week. Licenced bar available. No need to book but for further info phone 07887 607435. Tuesday 4th October Talk: Gardening Made Easy for Older People by Maurice Selwood, Chandler’s Ford and District Gardeners’ Club, 7.15pm St Boniface Church Centre. Visitors welcome.

Thursday 6th October 7pm “Who runs this place?: Guide to local government” by Solent People’s Theatre. A humorous multi-media show + chat show style discussion. £5 Thornden Hall, Thornden School, Chandler’s Ford. For tickets phone Jan on 8026 5852.

 

Thursday 6th October 1.30-4pm Hexagon Community IT Suite is set aside for HCA. Whether you’re totally new to computers (no charge) or you’re interested in registering for an online course eg Windows, Word, Excel, Access (subsidized) phone Andy on 8024 6320.

 

Sunday 9th October 9.30am-11.30am Guided Nature Walk and Seed Gathering. Potted seeds can be taken home to grow. Old flowerpots appreciated. Refreshments provided. Lakeside Country Park. All welcome. Tuesday 11 October 10am -12md HCA Local History Workshop at Chandler’s Ford Library. No experience needed – just an interest in local history. Wednesday 12th October Start of a six week HCA art course: Art and a Journey of Discovery led by HCA’s Mike Swanton who is generously giving his time free to raise funds for HCA. £30 for the course. All profits to HCA. Space limited. Phone Chris on 8090 8862 to book.

Sunday 16th October 7pm New Forest Big Band Concert at the Point, Eastleigh, in aid of lupus, an autoimmune disease. The singer is HCA’s Angela Jackson. Tickets from the Point, Tel 8065 2333.

 

Wednesday 19th October Oral History Annual Seminar at Hampshire Record Office, Sussex Street, Winchester. £15/£8 senior citizens. Fees and travel costs for car sharers will be reimbursed for those taking part in HCA’s Home Front Recall Project. Please Chris on 8090 8862 for details and to co-ordinate lifts.

Saturday 22nd October 2 – 3.30pm The Saturday Reading Group is discussing Joseph Heller’s Catch 22. If you’re interested in joining them contact Adam on 8026 7393.

 

Monday 24th October 1.30 for 2pm HCA Monthly Meeting  and Talk “Is this the Real India” by Gwen Appleton. An account of travels in mid and southern India and time spent helping in a local school in Goa, at Hiltingbury Scout Headquarters. Opportunity to meet other HCA members and find out about HCA Special Interest Groups. Tea and coffee served from 1.30pm.
