News > News NewsBOF Map DatabaseA searchable database of BOF registered maps for the whole of the UK can be viewed on-line on the BOF website from this address: http://cgi.orienteering.plus.com/bof/assoc_fix_sec.php. OCAD 9 Beta AvailableThe second phase beta copy of Ocad 9 is now available for testing for users of Ocad 8. The beta copy can be downloaded from the Ocad website: http://www.ocad.com/beta9/. The structure of the company behind Ocad is being re-organised; from 4 May 2005 a new company, Ocad AG will be formed, ownership divided amongst the family of Hans Stienegger and others in the orienteering community. More information can be found at http://www.ocad.com/en/2005/Press_Release_Formation_OCAD_AG.pdf. RSS FeedThe BOF Map Group website now has an RSS feed. RSS (which stands for Really Simple Syndication) is a system providing regular news updates from websites without the need to visit the providing websites directly. The URL for the BOF Map Group RSS feed is: http://www.btinternet.com/~james.head/bofmapgroup_rss.xml Whenever a new item is posted then the RSS feed will be updated. This feed can be read by a RSS Reader program. You have to give this program the URL for the news feed file and how often you want it to be checked. A guide, describing how to use the RSS feed with RSS readers, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, can be downloaded from this website in PDF format from the Downloads page. James Head, 17 April 2005. Map Awards for 2004At its meeting in March 2005 the BOF Map Group will be considering the Map Awards for 2004. The maps considered will be those first used for competition in 2004. These will include those maps that have been registered and revised as well as completely new maps. We need 4 maps and the MR2 that was sent to the named mapper. These should be sent to BOF Office. Hopefully most maps will have already been sent in but we have been aware in the past that some maps first used later in the calendar year do not get considered because they arrive late. Friday, February 18, 2005 ISOM 2000 symbol set updates for OcadThe BOF ISOM 2000 standard Ocad files have been updated to version 3b and can be downloaded from this website. A number of minor corrections have been made to the dimensions. You will notice that we now have included a 1:10000 set as well as the standard 1:15000. We hope that this will avoid the confusion that some mappers have had in the past when producing 1:10000 maps for Club events. Any map at 1:10000 should use this set. Two versions. Those for OCAD 7 can be converted to OCAD 8 and take advantage of the additional facilities in OCAD 7 and 8. I am grateful to Tony Pennick WCOC and Bruce Bryant for helping to produce these files. Would you pass them on to any other mappers in your Club who are not on the electronic mail list. Perhaps they might like to join contact Colin Spears HOC at the Map Group email address . Erik Peckett. No other certificates awarded. OCAD HelplineBOF Map Group have set up an Ocad Help Line. This is organised initially by Bruce Bryant of Octavian Droobers. He can be contacted by email at: If he cannot answer your question then he will refer it to others in Map Group. Map Group Mappers ListTo join the BOF Mappers electronic mailing list please email making the subject "MAPPER 2003". Give your BOF number, name, address, club, and telephone number. Your details will be entered on the address list automatically. Please also give the version of Ocad your using. If you do not wish to join the electronic mailing list then you can still receive postal mails by sending the same information to BOF office. Please be assured that this list will only be used to send you material from Map Group and will not be passed to another body. The intention would be to send the information to you with your address hidden in the 'blind carbon copy' (bcc). Your email address will not be disclosed, so hopefully you will not receive unsolicited emails (spam). Mapping and OS1Council have approved a decision to scrap the OS1 form. As of January 2003 there will be no charge made to clubs for the printing of maps based on Ordnance Survey material. There is still a need to register maps for insurance purposes and as part of the Rule change (5.1.3). The cost of the OS license will be borne centrally although the license number will still need to be included on appropriate maps. The cost of that section of the license that enables extracts of maps to be placed on websites will NOT be borne centrally and clubs will be expected to fund that themselves. A mechanism for the collection of those fees has still to be formulated. OS Maps on WebsitesSince the October memo advising clubs to remove Ordnance Survey based maps from web sites, we have negotiated an extension to our existing license to allow publication but with some restrictions. The details from the OS agreement can be found below. Crown Copyright - Internet Letter of Permission for 2002 This letter is to confirm that club members of the British Orienteering Federation can display Ordnance Survey based material on their web sites subject to the following terms and conditions:
